Surgery tomorrow under GA, nail polish?

Hi everyone,

Any anaesthetists about?

I've got an operation tomorrow under GA, I've taken my gels off my finger nails but I completely forgot about my toes, i currently have gold gel polish on my toes, do I need to take this off to?
Tried calling the hospital but no avail. I also have to go to a salon to get them removed as I don't have the right stuff at home so clutching at straws trying to find the answer as online is contradicting.
Thank you!

I’m not an anaesthetist but I have had GA in past
if i remember right they want to be able to see your nails unvarnished as it’s used to monitor your oxygen levels ? So if changed colour etc would be a warning sign

all this to say, if you can remove from just 1 big toenail that would probably be enough

if the surgery is on your feet then it could be a problem (and will be down to the surgeon's decision). Otherwise, it'll be fine. (DOI: anaesthetist)

@Greybeardy @Maria1982

Thank you! Surgery is gynae, I've got a bottle of nail polish remover I'll see if that will lift the gels at all to be on the safe side.

Finger nails are all clear :)

I had gynae surgery two weeks ago and nail varnish on toes was fine!

I’m a surgeon . Leave your lovely toes alone.
the anaesthetist will be happy if they can put the sats probe on your fingers .

really, I wouldn't bother - it'll be fine!

They told me one or the other is fine. Leave your toes!

My sparkly gold gel polish is staying firmly put on my toes (thanks so much)

However my fingers haven't seen the light of day for 3 years, they're not as brittle as I'd imagined but it feels very strange, I'll go either way biab or gel next time! I've had acrylics for a looong time.
