Hi DH had he’s colonscopy today and they removed 1 benign polyp and took biopsies also said he has proctitis which is just inflammation????? Still doesn’t answer why the bleeding 😒

Could it be crohns or colitis?

Greybeardy · 10/12/2024 16:55

Proctitis could easily explain the bleeding.

MissyPants · 10/12/2024 16:58

All round good news then. If surgeon would have suspected or found anything sinister they would have said today. I got the all clear straight after it was done.
Still had biopsies which are standard procedure.

Proctitis would be an explanation for the bleeding. It's treatable, often with Mesalazine suppositories which are really safe and generally no side effects. Presumably they'll organise a prescription for him. If the inflammation is bad they might prescribe steroids, again probably in a format to be inserted into the rectum which again limits side effects.

You should be able to breathe a sigh of relief. I've spotted your other threads and know you've been really worried!

Proctitis absolutely can cause bleeding!

Bubbletrouble2 · 10/12/2024 19:23

Yes omg really badly stressed .. I’m so glad it’s nothing sinister I think we will both sleep tonight .. have had many bad thoughts and scenarios over the last few weeks..

@Bubbletrouble2 did they refer him to the IBD team and start him on some treatment for the proctitis?

Bubbletrouble2 · 10/12/2024 21:47

No refered him back to the doc that initially referred for the colonoscopy and they said when biopsy results r back theyl b in touch

The biopsies can cause bleeding.

Hmmm... They should have started treatment, that's the protocol at our hospital. If he hasn't heard anything in a couple of weeks chase it up.
