Pressure between ribs and tummy button - getting concerned

For the last several days at least I’ve had this really uncomfortable pressure or squeezing feeling between my tummy and ribs. Almost feels like trapped gas or something but it’s high up. Feels as though the pressure is almost creeping into my chest and it’s hard to get to sleep. I’ve had ongoing IBs type symptoms and back and forth to the doctor over the year but now I’m panicking as it’s another change. Has anyone ever had something similar? I don’t know what to make of it - I wouldn’t say it’s sore but uncomfortable as if I was wearing something far too tight.

Upper right side? It'll be your gallbladder or pancreas. Because it's been going on a few days you need to seek medical attention incase you have a stuck stone or pancreatitis.

@Johndoeskellington thanks so much for replying. It is kind of all over the upper section between my stomach button and ribs or feels like a big pressure inside as if it’s a blown up balloon that’s pushing down on me. Last week our doctor surgery was all but closed as all the staff had been wiped out by norovirus.

If it's getting worse and you are struggling to sleep give 111 a call. They may suggest a trip to A&E for blood tests or may say wait and see your GP tomorrow. If you can't get a GP appointment tomorrow call 111 and they'll force book you in.

Have you tried taking anything for it? Gaviscon, antacids, buscopan?

Triflelife · 08/12/2024 22:51

@Johndoeskellington thanks yes I’ve had rennie type and also wind relief capsules to see if they would help but no joy.

I had this, is it better when you stand up straight or hunch over?

My gp kept saying indigestion / reflux despite me answering negatively to every question he asked.

I saw a physio, she said my ribs had become a little disconnected from my spine - I didn't really understand tbh. I laid on my front, took a deep breath and she leant down heavily on several areas of my spine which pretty much winded me. Loud crack and I felt improvement instantly, completely better a week later.

If it's better when you are hunched it may be the same.

Sounds like gall bladder or reflux? Is it constant or does it come and go? On a scale of 1-10 how painful is it?

Triflelife · 08/12/2024 23:08

@GreyBlackBay that’s interesting. It’s generally a bit better when I stand up. When I’m lying down it feels as if someone is sitting on that part of my body.

@stripeyshutters its definitely worse or more noticeable in the evenings but that might be because I’m lying/ sitting more. I wouldn’t say it’s really painful more uncomfortable as if my 3 year old was sitting on my stomach (but above tummy button) it’s a pressure a bit like that. I’ll look into gallbladder too thanks

Actually when it first started around a week ago it was like a light squeezing as if my stomach was doing small spasms or something. It’s now like a full on squeeze or pressure type. Sorry I’m not explaining well it’s just a strange sensation
