3 weeks ago I got a uti after sex. Nothing unusual there. Took d mannose as it was a Sunday and got nitrofurantoin off Dr on the Monday as there was blood and wbc in urine . Symptoms appear to resolve.
Last Friday I came down with a fever, nausea, slightly dodgy stomach. No obvious bladder symptoms that I can remember. Thought maybe virus. Fever was a bit better on the Saturday. Did a repeat dip for gp on Tuesday which was clear. Then on Wednesday the fever comes back but much worse, higher temp, feeling awful, stomach pain, back pain, nausea but no obvious bladder symptoms.
Went to urgent care who gave me cefalexin as there was blood in urine again. I then had a lot of pain on my right side only on Thursday, so went back thinking maybe kidney stones but they did a ct scan and there were none. Told to continue with cefalexin and take more painkillers. The pain subsided by itself.
I'm now on day 4 of cefalexin, my stomach feel horrible and bloated but I have no loose stools, which is unusual for me on antibiotics. I'm actually finding it hard to have a bowel movement. Still feel nauseous and burping a lot but I also haven't really eaten a lot these last few days because of feeling so rough.
Last night I started noticing some bladder symptoms again. I also started my period, which complicates things. Could it be that it's the infection on its way out of my bladder now or is it possible that the antibiotics are not working? My fever is better than it was but still hovering around 37.5 / 37.6.
Has something like this happened to anyone else? This is not how my uti's normally track (apart from when I had a hospital acquired antibiotic resistant one after having my daughter 8 years ago). I've really had enough of it all now and wondering what the next course of action should be?
Other things to note is that I've recently been having some retention issues and just been told I have a retroverted uterus. Awaiting ultrasound scan.
