So to cut a long story short i have been experiencing night sweats and flu like symptoms . I am under Rheumatology and it was suggested i have a Ct chest scan to rule out Lymphoma ( i have had swollen glands but none swollen enough to warrant biopsy and look normal on ultrasound )
I went for scan and was told doctor had requested chest thorax pelvis and abdomen scan . I was initially a bit concerned about radiation but decided to go for it .
Half way through scan contrast was added but afterwards was mentioned radiation was reduced quite a lot due to my slim physique and was about 3 years abd nothinh to worry about .
Since leaving scan ive read online that this scan leaves a moderate risk of cancer in years to come and also concerns me contrast was added part way through scan - does this mean ive been scanned several times ?

Any reassurance or input would be great - for context im mid 30s and female .

Many thanks

This worry is your health anxiety talking.

Youve been posting for months about all sorts of health issues. The medics have used their clinical judgement to give you the tests that you needed.

What @TheSpottedZebra said.
hey always give the contrast part way through the scan.
It's standard to do chest thorax abd abdomen. I've had several of these.
If they suspect cancer now they aren't going to hold back from scanning because of a future hypothetical increased risk.

contrast is always used for abdominal scans

Lkakpk · 04/12/2024 17:25

@despairnow i was just confused why it was given part way through ?

Because some of the scan is done non contrast eg thorax. Then depending on the images they need contrast is phased in for the abdomen / pelvis

@despairnow Ah thankyou for this ! i was worried it may double the dose of radiation !
