Stress fractures

I had a stress fracture on my 2nd metatarsal which came out of nowhere. Seen the physio and podiatrist who all said it is wear and tear ( I am 52) an ovr pronounced bunion on the other foot affecting my gait and arthritis in my big toe placing the load of weight bearing on to the metatarsals
4 months on I returned to my cleaning job (2 hours a day) and was horrified to see a bruise appear at the site of the injury
Attended A&E last night and was told it is soft damage tissue - advised to ice and rest but gave no indication if I can still do my job and after googling this it states you nay need an air boot and treat as it is a fracture which I am mortified about as I need to get back to work
The doctor advised to go back to the podiatrist but can not get an appointment and indicated my anxiety is not helping - but how can you not be anxious when you have bills to pay
Any advise please
