Tapentadol?

Hi
I've been taking tapentadol for chronic back pain in hospital for two weeks and have been given a months supply to take at home. On my discharge letter it says it is not to be renewed by gp. As far as I understand this is not something that can suddenly be stopped so should I be reducing the amount I take gradually?

Yes I would. When you get to 14-10 days to go, work out the maths so that you can reduce it to one tablet in the few days before it finishes and then come off just onto Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. You won’t want to be on Tapentadol regularly long-term because of the constipation. Xx

Thanks I was thinking of doing it in increments so maybe taking one in the morning then half at night, then dropping to one a day. I'm not sure how pain will be so might need to ask for something stronger than paracetamol.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen together; you will be good. I deal with chronic pain daily and that’s my go-to. X
