Anyone come off Omeprazole successfully?

I've been taking Omeprazole for around 4 years. Initially given it to lessen the gallstone issues. Gallbladder removed 18months ago. Whenever I've tried to stop the Omeprazole the acid is bad. I've read it shouldn't be used long term and also more recently that it can increase the risk of dementia.

Has anyone come of this drug and had symptoms go away?

I'm not a doctor, but have you been tested for H pylori?

I've been off with no burning to my pleasant surprise!

  1. Switched to famotidine after expressing worries to gp
  1. Took 1 tablet a day instead of the prescribed 2. Gaviston to cover the rest of the time
  1. Lost belly fat by eating up to 80% full and not a bite more. Listen to stomach not mouth! This showed i was eating about 2x what my body wants/can handle
  1. Avoid all UPF
  1. Drink matcha, has a very soothing effect on stomach

Still take gaviston sometimes but positive so far. Fingers crossed.
I've even eaten tomatoes and onions again and felt ok 👍

@jinglebells2725 can you say a bit more about what eating to 80% full and listening to your stomach not mouth actually means in practice?

I gave up ranitidine but it took ten years working with a psychologist to sort it out. I chew a lot of mint gum now, but no drugs.

@Rowaround hiya, so i just imagine it that you can fill your stomach to 100% full ie when you eat until you feel full and satisfied. ((I don't know the actual science this is just how i think of it). I've learnt to eat a small portion then stop and feel how full i am. If I've reached 80% full then i stop eating. So i still kinda feel hungry at that point but if you wait a bit that hunger goes away. I suppose it just means i eat too fast! But apparently that's genetic so you can't do anything about it

And having less food in your stomach means the acid never reaches as high

And empties faster
