Has anyone done this? What should i expect, the nurse mentioned the dreaded internal on the phone!

They will get you to do pelvic floor exercises while they do an internal and feel whether you are working the muscles properly - its a bit embarrassing but not TOO much if you have had a baby!!!

I have to say my physio was lovely with a fantastic manner and put me straight at ease so we ended up chatting away like friends every time, hopefully yours will be the same!!!

Hi there,
this is standard in France. They will probably do an internal (ie fingers and ask you to squeeze) to start off with to test where the muscles need to be worked on.

Then (here), they put a probe inside you and go away to leave you to squeeze according to a pattern on a tv screen (ie, hold it for a few seconds, let go, the screen looks like a graph you have to try and follow).

Sorry, no way of saying it all without it being tmi !

good luck, you'll be fine, at least you keep the rest of your clothes on!

I don't think they do the probe thing here on the NHS, sounds like a good idea though!!

I had this 3 months after birth. It was fine - I had a very friendly physio who put me at ease.

I just had an internal - no probe. She tested several places to see how strong the muscles were and whether there was any sign of prolapse. The internal part of things only lasted about 5-10 minutes. The rest of the appointment she was going through how to do pelvic floors properly

LOL the probe sounds like something you would get at the gym, like those exercise bikes you have to pedal to zap the space invaders. I wonder if you could introduce them at the gym????

I did the squeezing her finger thing - had several appointments, and she measured how I improved over time - it was fine, in fact I remember we had quite a laugh.

it's actually really useful. I was never quite sure i was 'clenching' the right way until after my physio sessions.

I got a probe!!!! They let me bring it home - i'm going to rig it up to the playstation
