Mine did. They also gave a print out of what they told me (which was useful as I was still a bit high on the sedation!).

Lovelysummerdays · 27/11/2024 13:47

They told me after. It all seemed fine. They also gave me a print out which showed where they had taken pictures/ a biopsy.

I got the all clear and was told as soon as I came round.

Other family members had cancer and were told right away.

I'm guessing other things (I don't know but I'm thinking Crohns, Colitis, coeliac etc) may need lab results and so take longer.

So when they see crohns colitis etc won’t they give a rough idea ?

My husband was told what they’d seen essentially and what they’d take biopsies of/removed. In his case they saw one polyp and removed that there and then. They said they don’t think it looks suspicious at all and was very small but would biopsy just in case. Those results were fine so just came in a letter in a post a couple of weeks later.

MadKittenWoman · 27/11/2024 13:49

You get told straight away.

They’d say they saw something suspicious that could indicate x and that it’ll be looked at in depth by the lab. It’s good to remember some things are in the small intestine rather than large so not necessarily visible but could be confirmed by taking biopsies

My consultant told me it looked like crohns as he was doing my colonoscopy, but that I’d have to wait for the biopsies to be sure. I had a follow up appointment with him a couple of weeks or so later where he confirmed the diagnosis and started my treatment. I’ll attach a photo of the report I was given on the day of my scope.

Also, if you get to watch as they do the scope, what you see on screen is greatly magnified. Any polyps etc look massive, but in reality they are millimetres in size. Totally freaked me out, especially as I had gas and air so wasn't completely compos mentis!

Our gastroenterologists will speak to the children and families, straight afterwards and tell them what they found. As many need to start on treatment straightaway.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 27/11/2024 20:41

They told my husband all was well after being referred for suspected bowel cancer.

justasmalltownmum · 27/11/2024 20:59

They said it's not cancer straight away.

Everything else took time.

stargazerlil · 27/11/2024 21:00

If they see a Polyp in there they will remove it. This I know from experience, other things I don’t know.

I have Crohn’s. The person doing the colonoscopy remarked that judging by what he’d seen he’d be amazed if I didn’t have Crohn’s. The official diagnosis was at least a month later

RobinBobbing · 27/11/2024 21:08

I wasn’t told anything! Surprised by these responses.
We knew already it was cancer, he was taking samples to biopsy to see the type but also having a look at how it presented to see if he could work out the type to give us a start on the likely treatment. He got back to my consultant not me.

in his defence when he started I was in a huge amount of pain (maybe due to the tumours I had) and the pre-medication had done nothing so they gave me gas and air so they could do the colonoscopy. I enjoy gas and air. Once it wore on I was pretty high. There was a screen and every time they got a sample I was cheering and scoring the sample out of 10. He might have thought it wasn’t worth having a sensible conversation…

GiveMeAbitOfSugar · 28/11/2024 02:22

Yep got told straight away

12 biopsies taken and it was 22 weeks for results and then i had to fight and fight to find out the results - Utter madness !!!
