Covid & anxiety

Not a rant… just a question from a mum with health anxiety. So today, me, my partner & 2 children tested positive for Covid. 3 days ago my son was unwell and not himself, today he seems so much better. Me and my partner don’t feel awful & my daughter is absolutely fine other than a positive test. We’re meant to be going away on Monday I’m worried we’re not going to be able to go😫 has anyone ever experience Covid & not been that poorly or have they ever had Covid and it get better for a few days and then come back even worse…🥲
I will be testing again on Saturday if any of us are still positive we will not be going away I am not one of those awful parents who will spread illness. Just wondering what to expect..

If your symptoms are mild and you are recovered by Saturday, a positive test doesn't necessarily mean you are still contagious, it just means you have some remaining viral mRNA that's showing up. Many people get Covid now and it's just mild, because they have developed immunity to the virus.

I have had Covid twice in the last 4 years. The first time was horrendous, but the second time was relatively mild. I felt awful, but compared to the first time when I genuinely thought I was going to end up in hospital and that I might die, it was ok!

I will say I didn't really didn't feel like doing anything for around 10-14 days, and still felt "off" for weeks after the second time. So the mild version lasted much longer than the severe one! Weird.

You will probably be fine to travel by Monday in terms of contagiousness. Whether you feel like travelling is another matter. Do you have insurance that will cover it if you can't go?

@Tillow4ever unfortunately no insurance. We're on day 4 and none of us feel like death do you think if we were going to be really poorly we would've by now? My son literally recovered in 3 days

@AlteredStater we're on day 4 do you think we'd of been really poorly by now if we were going to be?

For some people, the illness worsens around day 7-10. Impossible to know whether you will be one of them.

grissom094 · 26/11/2024 16:38

@AlteredStater really hoping it doesn't 😫

@AlteredStater my son is back 100% though. No symptoms so does that mean on day 7-10 it could come back with vengeance

He's probably fine! Certainly doesn't happen to everyone. Have any of you had Covid before?

grissom094 · 26/11/2024 16:48

@AlteredStater yes, except my son. I can barely remember it as it was so long ago x
In your opinion would you go away on holiday x

I think in the early days of covid before Omicron, which is much milder, there were a lot of people who took a turn for the worst after a week of not feeling too bad.
I don't think that's common now though.
I've had it 3 times. The first time I was very ill and ended up in hospital after about 10 days. The second time it was all gone in 3 days. Then this year it was somewhere in between. Felt rough for a week but gradually got better over 4 weeks.
If you're young and healthy you'll probably all be fine by the weekend.

grissom094 · 26/11/2024 16:54

@woffley really hoping we're ok.. it's been over 3 days but our symptoms haven't been major at all and we're feeling better day by day so hoping it stays that way🙏x

I would say rest up this week, keep warm, stay on top of meds etc and keep everything crossed. If you are vaccinated (you don’t need to reveal your vaccination status on here) it will be more likely to be a mild illness for you.

You could try contacting whoever you have booked through and asking if you could move the booking to a different date.

good luck!

grissom094 · 26/11/2024 17:15

@Tillow4ever fingers crossed 😭xx
