Has anyone else got this horrendous cold/chest virus?

Came down with a pretty bad cold Friday night. Unusually for me seemed to go straight to my chest. Barky cough, congestion, burning feeling in throat and chest. Today I can hear congestion in there. Now my 1 year old has it. Have a gp appointment today. I’m asthmatic so need to be extra careful. I’m assuming viral so not sure if they can even give me anything. Feeling fed up! :(

Yes I had this as did my daughter. Went straight to my chest too which is really rare for me. I ended up having to cancel much awaited surgery which was heart breaking as I couldn’t lie flat. It was horrible for about 5 days and then went away as quickly as it came. I’m still left feeling a bit chesty though 2 weeks later. I imagine there’s a pretty horrible virus doing the rounds

Yeah, DH and DS2 both have it. It's just been annoying for DH but DS2 was quite unwell for a day or so.

I have it. Day 3. Everything hurts and my chest is burning

I'm in Ireland and the five of us in the house have something very similar. It's rotten. Negative covid tests though.

The burning chest part is the worst. I asked the GP about that today as I was a bit concerned and she said it’s the irritation and inflammation from the virus. Horrible hope you feel better soon!

I got home from my first day back at work today and sat and sobbed on the sofa for half an hour... about nothing in particular. The post-viral blues have hit. I hope this goes away soon.

UnhappyAndYouKnowIt · 25/11/2024 23:17

I can definitely understand coming home and sobbing. I feel like a crybaby but I haven't been able to manage more than a bath in days. My house is a wreck, I'm falling behind at work and everything hurts so much, I don't know where to put myself. I'm drinking but completely off food now.

My right eye was gummed shut with green snot this morning, and when I blew my nose this evening, my left eyeball stung like crazy and then I lost about half my hearing. Such a dose!

MymblesMother · 27/11/2024 19:38

I had it for over a week and was left with a lingering cough and exhaustion for another week.

Bronchostop liquid medicine really helped the cough and I took cold & flu tablets for the headache, burning throat, temperature etc.

Hope you feel better soon, OP.

I’m still breastfeeding so can’t take much sadly! Relying on the natural remedies. Thank you

Possibly, however there are also a lot of other nasties doing the rounds right now. I have been spending a lot of time at toddler groups and RSV is rife with them, so I did wonder if it was that as I am way more congested than I ever was with Covid.

We’ve all had it here. Took about 5 weeks (sorry to be the bearer of bad news) to finally clear off and poor dd has had really bad post viral fatigue with it as well.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 27/11/2024 20:39

I have this just now. Worse than Covid for me, I’d rather have that. But tested negative. Took a couple of days off work but went back today (wfh) but feel rotten

Hope we all feel better soon

TheHighPriestess1 · 27/11/2024 20:39

Had it at end of Oct/beginning of Nov finally got rid of it now got sick bug

Starry4321 · 04/12/2024 15:48

Update - I’m physically feeling better but I’m still battling a bit of a chesty cough where I can hear phlegm rattling about in my chest on and off but can’t really cough it up. If it doesn’t clear in next few days I’m going to make another gp appointment. I am HOPING it’s just the last thing to go. I’m back at work with lots of lozenges to try and avoid coughing. Honestly when will this end!
