Toddler recovering from surgery

My son who is nearly 3 had to have emergency surgery for testicular torsion on Thursday night. So far so good with his recovery, stitches etc however it's really hard to get him to rest. He's due to go back to preschool next week but I'm wondering whether I should keep him home so he doesn't overdo it? He's on regular pain relief at the moment. The aftercare advice says no strenuous activities for 3-4 weeks but he's a toddler who barely stops bouncing around on a normal day! What would you do if you were me?

Oh bless him... If that was my toddler I would definitely keep him home for at least next week, and then see how he is after. It might be easier to maintain keeping him being less active at home, rather than around a group of other toddlers running around etc... I guess it depends on his healing and how sensitive he is to any pain after.
Hope he heals quickly

I'd keep him home a little longer as well, at least you can be sure he gets an extra week of 'rest' or whatever rest looks like for a toddler. Nursery can be wild. Hope he has a fast recovery

Agreed. My son had a similar op when he was a bit older and had a week off school.

Thanks for all your replies. We ended up back at the hospital today being checked for infection as he has a fever and has been really sleepy. No infection but could be his body struggling after the anaesthetic so no preschool until he's better, at least a week.

Ah he's really going through it. Hope he's better soon x

That's really tough. I hope he's better soon.
