Hi all,

I've attached a pic of urine sample test and wondered if I need to see a GP. I'm feeling a little under the weather, no temp no pain but I do have urgency when I need to pee.
Headaches and lethargy

Thanks

Are they in date?

whydoialwaysmessup · 23/11/2024 14:05

Hi yes they are

OP posts:
GG1986 · 23/11/2024 14:05

Maybe call 111 and see if you can get out of hours appointment.

SnakesAndArrows · 23/11/2024 14:11

I would second what GG1986 says. You appear (although the photo may be misleading) to have high levels of ketones in your urine which warrants medical attention.

whydoialwaysmessup · 23/11/2024 15:16

My ketone are always like that for some reason

OP posts:
SnakesAndArrows · 23/11/2024 16:13

OK. What are you looking for on this thread?

GCITC · 23/11/2024 16:17

Unless you're on a keto diet and are expecting to be in ketosis that level of ketones is an A&E visit. Diabetes can kill if not treated.

whydoialwaysmessup · 23/11/2024 16:21

I'm not diabetic or haven't been diagnosed, should I still go?

OP posts:
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/11/2024 16:45

Yes you have acidic urine and high ketones. That does warrant being checked out.

DeliciousApples · 23/11/2024 17:18

Is it that or is it the strip doesn't align with the carton?

I take it you are looking at the navy blue bit?

High key tones aren't navy. There is no navy blue in the keystones line I have, it's all pinky shades.

I got confused with that also. Maybe it's just me but it's hard to read.

DeliciousApples · 23/11/2024 17:20

Oh and the density line above that has a navy marking so it's like the block for that is in the wrong place?

DeliciousApples · 23/11/2024 17:22

The ph appears to be around 5. So what's wrong with that?

I'm thinking it all looks fine if you consider the blobs may have been out on in the wrong order, but happy to hear corrected.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/11/2024 17:29

On its own a ph of 5 is the low end of normal. It could simply be a sign of dehydration or a UTI but if the ketones are also high there is a chance it could be linked to DKA.

GiveMeAbitOfSugar · 23/11/2024 17:32

It looks like you are dehydrated

You say you always have ‘high ketones’
How do you know? Does ypur GP know? Any medical conditions?
Why do you have these test strips at home?

Did u take the photo within 60 secs and either 2 or 3 minutes?

Flannelectomy · 23/11/2024 17:35

Call 111 and speak to them.

Floralnomad · 23/11/2024 17:39

How long have you had the strips open ? Just call 111 if you are concerned .

DeliciousApples · 23/11/2024 19:00

How do some of you know the keytones are high?

The corresponding blob is navy.

Keytones are measure in the pinks.

So why do you think they are high?

I'm maybe not explaining this well but please look at the colours again and they do not seem to be in the correct order? Perhaps a manufacturing fault on the printed sheet in the bottle or the blobs have been stuck incorrectly?

Do you see what I mean? Or am I talking nonsense 😂

Because some of us know how dipsticks work.

Normal ketone content of urine is zero and the colour is pink. Anything that is not pink is not zero so is not normal. The further away from pink the more outside the normal range.

VegTrug · 24/11/2024 09:39

Yeah those strips look to be mid-aligned. Did you get them on Amazon?

Jaehee · 24/11/2024 09:50

Your urine specific gravity is high, and you have ketones. It could indicate diabetes, or that you're very dehydrated, or something else. Go to the GP, not sure why you're asking on here.

Blushingm · 24/11/2024 09:58

It doesn't look like you've lined it up correctly

Also is the photo taken within the time limit on the sample

NordicwithTeen · 24/11/2024 10:01

Keytones show as grey if the pack has been open for over 6 months.

snowsjoke · 24/11/2024 15:33

Isn't it Ketones not Keytones?

DeliciousApples · 24/11/2024 16:42

@SnakesAndArrows regarding your comment "Because some of us know how dipsticks work."

In that case could you explain why there is a navy blue blob on the key and yet this appears to be aligned with an orange blob. And the navy blob in the strip appears to aligned with the pink blob?

I honestly don't think I can't read it because I'm ignorant, I truly believe that the strip that's not right and the picture in the bottle isn't aligned.

ie Its 'seconds' or something because it's not right. I bought one the same on Amazon. Most irritating.

When reading the strip start at the top and work down.
Then start at tue bottom and work up.
You'll see what I mean.
Somethings not right somewhere.

It seems too much of a coincidence that the navy blob is not where it's supposed to be!

In the meantime OP, I would go to the GP. However I think your results will be ok. Take your photo with you if you want and show him and see if he can explain it once he's done an nhs dipstick.

Only the gp can help. Important you go. Or drop in a sample.

SnakesAndArrows · 24/11/2024 18:20

The bottom (or left hand side if the bottle is standing up) colours within shot are the lowest reading or negative comparators. You can’t see the upper or out of range colours.

For ketones, only zero is within normal range (light pink as shown on the bottle). Dark purple is out of range, but you can’t see the dark purple comparator in this photo. For specific gravity, dark green is the lowest in the range and orange is highest in the range, which again you can’t see in this photo.

High SG can just mean moderate dehydration. High ketones might indicate a serious medical problem.

It’s not impossible that the stick has been incorrectly assembled, but not very likely. I don’t think that’s the case here. I’m not seeing any pink in-range ketones, are you?
