Is this psoriasis on my scalp? Please help

I am asking here to begin with as I am housebound at the moment and it’s so hard to get an appointment with the doctor.

I am in my late 60s and have multiple health issues and have started to develop rough patches on my scalp. They are thick and rough, starting out with just one a few months ago and now all over the top of my head. The patches have white scales but underneath these my skin is thick and like scabs. I don’t think it’s dandruff.

My DM had psoriasis later in life and I am worried I may also have it. Whilst I’m trying to get an appointment, can anyone suggest anything that could help? It itches quite a lot.

TIA

Can you send a photo to your GP if you can't get an appointment. Can you get to a pharmacist, it could be a variety of things really.

Sounds like psoriasis. Go straight to your gp surgery and get an appointment booked with a professional.
Your symptoms do sound like plaque psoriasis. They may give you some cream but will need to do a full assesment about your general wellbeing and if it's affected anywhere else.
No need to go to a pharmacy as they can't sell anything for psoriasis and you will need a prescription.

Take care lovely

It could be and as someone who has scalp psoriasis I know how much you must want to scratch your scalp off! Make sure that you keep it moisturised to help relieve a little of the itching. I drench my scalp in moisturiser at bed time and then wash it all out in the morning (top tip - shampoo dry hair and then rinse and wash as normal to get the grease out). I find coaltar shampoos (I use polytar) helps which you can buy over the counter. Sebco is also brilliant and you can get over the counter. I use can which betnovate scalp which you can only get from the GP. Get the appointment but try the other stuff whilst you wait. The pharmacist can talk you through the shampoos and sebco.

Sorry about the typo

Thank you for your suggestions @MissMoneyFairy @Hididi11 and @Cric . I am trying to get appointments for multiple issues at the moment, but it is so difficult. In the meantime, I will try some of your ideas. Stopping the itching would be great!

I really need to go get my hair cut but don’t want to horrify my lovely hairdresser!
