Is this a stomach bug?

Doea this sound like a stomach bug? I was away at a conference for 3 nights. Ate some prawns on night one. The next morning, I realised I was very gassy and at one point, had some explosive semi- runny poo. Day 2 also gassy but by day 3, I had diarrhea and went to the toilet 5 times in the morning. No fever, no nausea or sickness. But very gassy. When I got home, I had diarrhea the next day, but just once, with some lower stomach cramps (mild). However the morning after, I had diarrhea again, but this time it was mixed with blood (not bright red, not dark red, just red). That was 4 days ago. Since then, the diarrhea has stopped, no blood, but my stool is still very soft/mushy. I am also getting a lot of gurling/gassy noises in my lower abdomen which I never have.
GP sent off a stool sample, saying he thinks it's a bug, but I don't feel sick or have a fever so can this really be a bug/food poisoning??
Of course, I'm worried about the blood but GP said this could be due to the diarrhea irritating the bowl..
Just to note, on day 1 of the conference, a colleague who I shook hands with came down with a stomach bug and left early, but we didn't eat the same food.

Anyone experienced anything similar??

Yes I had this.
Thought it was dairy or a bug.I do use public transport and tummy bugs are on the rise.

Sounds like Campylobacter. Should be picked up in sample. Feel better soon Flowers

Thanks for replying!

I've never had a stomach bug/food poisoning without having a fever and feeling fluey , but I guess that's possible?

The blood scared me and the constant lower rumbles and gas is definitely not normal for me...

@whatisforteamum did you have blood in your stools and how long before you fully recovered?

I had campylobacter recently and it sounds similar

No blood just iffy and gassy bit loose.
Waiting for tonight to decide about work.

JESS1211 · 18/11/2024 16:55

It's the blood that's bothering me as I haven't heard many people say that they've had this as part of a stomach bug/food poisoning

Yes definitely possible to have a stomach bug without the vomitting/feeling unwell side of things. Blood can be common depending on which bug has caused the symptoms, but it can be alarming! Hopefully your GP will have some results for you soon. Stay as hydrated as you can, dioralyte is great if you’re starting to feel lousy!

Some bugs do cause blood in stools. It can take a few days for the sample results to be available. In the mean time homemade or good quality bought bone broth is really good for the gut. I use it when my IBD starts grumbling.

I think blood can definitely be part of campylobacter.
