Any dentists? Help needed!

I had a cleaning with the hygienist (it was so overwhelming that I actually cried which I’ve never done before) and after about 2 weeks I suddenly had one very sensitive tooth. After a week I went to see the dentist who said it looked fine, an x ray looked fine and that it was sensitive gum.

He prescribed a high fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash. The mouthwash was to be used for 2 weeks and he gave about a month’s worth of the toothpaste.

I'm in week 4 now and although a tiny bit better, anything cold or hot causes pain. It feels like a sharp pain going through the middle of my tooth rather than the gum.

I have another hygienist appointment in January which I was dreading anyway but now I’m worried. Do I go back to the dentist again or is it normal for it to take this long to improve? Any advice from dental experts appreciated.
