Earache

Hi all, does anyone have any good remedies for earache? I've had it on and off all week but since Thursday it's been horrific. It's my face and jaw hurting too. I've done the usual ibuprofen, ear spray and was laid last night with hot clothe on both ears. It's not shifting and I feel pretty miserable xxx

I had this randomly last year on both ears. Are they swollen and closed up inside too? It was grim. Never had it before. Do you know the cause? I became convinced it was a symptom of COVID as tested positive the week after the chronic ear pain. I had it again to a lesser degree recently followed by horrendous virus (possibly COVID but didn't test positive this time). I got antibiotics and spray but they didn't really do anything. I had to sleep on one of those travel neck cushion things. Nothing worked for me, only time...hope you get some remedy or feel better soon.

I actually had tonsillitis twice in the last couple months just got over it couple weeks ago and now this 🙄 I feel they are blocked because I'm struggling to hear but I've been told by my GP before that I don't have wax in my ears and that can be worse. They are sore I've used a spray but not doing anything. If they are rbe same Monday I'm going to try get an appointment to get them checked. It's horrible isn't it. I'm also struggling to sleep xx

It sounds as if you have an infection. Please try and get an appointment with a gp or practice nurse asap. To be honest, with my lifelong experiences of ear problems, l know exactly what complications arise and I think you should ring 111.

Dont lie down, the pressure makes thr pain worse. Sleep sitting up, hot water bottle on the ear and the stringest pain relief you have comfort - and get it seen. An infection can result in a burst ear drum if left

Go to a pharmacy tomorrow. Sounds like you need antibiotics.

I was recommended a spray called Earcalm which can be bought from behind the cou ter at any chemist.

Thanks everyone I have been laid up whilst sleeping. I woke up at half 8 this morning for the loo after a very restless night. Went back to bed and said if I'm awake in 10 mins I'll just get back up. My daughter came woke me back up at half 10 to get up for her horse riding. She said I looked like crap lol! I had every intention of gutting her room out for Xmas but I've done absolutely nothing. I've got a spray I picked up. My pharmacy is closed weekends as I'm from a village but I'll try one of the bigger ones tomorrow. Not sure I can take another night and day of it. X

Please, please ring 111. Your ear is getting worse and it sounds as if you have a nasty infection. Some ear infections can be very dangerous as the ear is so near the brain. Acute Mastoiditis can have these symptoms. As l said yesterday, I have a lifetime's experience of ear problems. When I was thirteen, I had an abcess in my ear which actually burst. The pain was absolutely excruciating. You need to be seen urgently. Hopefully, it will turn out to be a straightforward ear infection, but you don't want to run the risk of it becoming worse and turning into something really nasty.
