DD vomited once, could this be a bug

My 4 year old vomited this afternoon about 2 o'clock, she was sick once and was eating toast within an hour. She also had a little bit of mashed potato at tea time and a fab lolly and so far has kept it down. That was about 2 hours ago. I have a bit of a phobia of being sick and my 15 month old DS ended up in hospital a month ago with dehydration following a stomach bug and i'm really worried that this is a bug that she has, but its unusual for them to only be sick once with a stomach bug is'nt it. I have 5 children, my eldest is 23, so you'd think i'd have all the answers. Don't know what to think, i'm really hoping it was just a one off.

Thanks for any replies.

It does sound like its a one off
and if you managed to cope with your ds then if it does turn out to be a bug you'll def be able to cope this time around.

It's unlikely to be a bug if she was sick once and has no other symptoms, don't worry

kaylasmum · 27/04/2008 20:44

thanks for your reply, yeah i did cope when my son was ill, but only just. I was so scared of being sick myself that i barely ate for 4 days and lost 5 pounds, which is no bad thing as i'm overweight! i'm also scared that my son will get it again, he was so ill. i hate myself for being so pathetic but i just can't help it. I suffer from anxiety at the best of times.

She has'nt really got any other symptoms, but she does keep saying that she feels "weird". Not too sure what she means by that. It's 7 hours since she was sick. I'm jusy getting myself so worked up over this, don't think i'll sleep much tonight.

I'm an ex-emetaphobe so I know how you are feeling. Just try to relax, take deep breaths and close your eyes. Sleep will come.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/04/2008 22:02

it will be ok - honest. It is so very very not pathetic, I fully understand. Tonight is one night. You get through tonight however you can. You are bound to be worried after your ds. But even though it was hard to cope you did do it.

your dd might be feeling weird for loads of reasons, maybe her blood sugar is just a tad low now? or maybe she is a little bit anxious herself.

Anyway, I hope you do manage some sleep. If not, thats ok too, its one night. I do wish you well.

kaylasmum · 27/04/2008 22:29

thanks again for the replies, i feel like such a bad mum, i'm worrying so much about this that i feel like i'm not giving my all to my DD. She's asleep now but it seemed like she was having waves of nausea, i just don't understand it, i've not seen a bug like this before. I will probably sit up most of the night cos i'm scared to go to sleep incase she vomits when she's asleep or that i'll wake up feeling ill myself. Sounds crazy but i just can't help how i feel, i think i need some help with my anxieties as they are beginning to take over my life.

Weeeeell, yesterday my nearly 3 year old threw up in the street. Just projectile vomited twice. For the rest of the day, she carried on as normal, ate her food, albeit not a huge amount. Today - puking up all day and doing liquid poos.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/04/2008 13:10

kaylasmum - how was last night? did you both get through it ok?

Fllight · 28/04/2008 13:19

Calvemjoe, I'm intrigued by your post - how did you become an ex emetophobe?

Kaylasmum, hope she and you are fine x

kaylasmum · 28/04/2008 18:03

thank you both for your concern, last night was'nt too bad. My DD fell asleep around 10 and slept all night, has been fine today and eating almost normally. She's a very fussy eater anyway. Don't know what was wrong with her, if it was a bug or not. What did cross my mind though was that on Saturday we were in town and there was a continental market and she had some samples of salami, as did i. Just wondering if that could have caused her to be sick as it was just sitting out on plates, not refrigerated. Don't know if it had been that if she would have been more sick. The other thing that is really worrying me is that when she was sick her little brother was in front of her with his back to her and unfortunately some of the vomit went on him. As i said in my earlier post he was in hospital a few weeks ago because of a stomach bug and i really don't want to see him go through that again.

I've been feeling so down today because of all this and just wish that i could stop worrying.
