Should I take the antibiotics?

I went to the doc today for an unrelated issue, but I've also had a relatively bad cough for a week or so, developed into cold symptoms but nothing too dreadful. I mentioned this to the doc and she listened to my chest and couldn't hear anything, but said my temp was a bit high (37.5) so she prescribed me antibiotics 'to be on the safe side'

I really don't feel like I've got a chest infection, so I haven't taken them yet but I was just wondering if anybody else would in my position or what people think generally. I've never had a chest infection so don't know what it feels like - would I know for sure? She's prescribed doxycycline

I wouldn't. And not Doxycycline, it's pretty hard core and has some nasty side effects on your digestion.

I would leave it a couple of days to see. If you get worse, then take the antibiotics. It is possible to have chest infections and medics not be able to hear anything.

Doctors don't dish out antibiotics willy-nilly, so they clearly think you need them. Maybe go and speak to a pharmacist and ask their advice.

I wouldn't and if I was still unwell would ask for a nice old fashion antibiotic...those are rough. Mullein and plantain herbs...

Mumofteenandtween · 12/11/2024 23:14

Did she give you them to take now or to take if you get worse?

Ratfinkstinkypink · 13/11/2024 08:45

No, I wouldn't be taking them off the back of one slightly high reading (weren't they saying 37.8° or above was a fever during the pandemic?) and a clear chest. I would wait and see if things got worse.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 13/11/2024 08:45

Did she take your O2 readings?

Edenmum2 · 13/11/2024 16:50

She said to take them just in case it was an infection, my o2 readings were fine, 99 blood oxygen. I feel a little better today so defo think I made the right call not to
