Does anyone know what could be causing this pain?

It’s below my rib on the left side, very painful when I breathe/cough/sneeze and a dull ache any other time. It started after eating a take away and gradually got more painful each day. It’s been 2 days now and pain killers haven’t made a difference. From a body diagram it’s around the spleen area. I can’t see a doctor until Thursday so could anyone suggest anything in the meantime please?

I had pleurisy once and it was like that. So painful when I coughed or took a big breath. Painkillers didn't help. It was in my back, though, under my ribs.

Thank you, did you have any other symptoms?
i feel fine otherwise which is why I’m struggling to pinpoint it

No, nothing I don't think, just the pain. After a couple of days of it getting worse, it was hard to catch my breath. It went away within a couple of weeks, of I remember rightly - think I needed antibiotics though

I had this and diagnosed as costochondritis. Very painful!

Could be a number of things but I'd say try not to worry or focus too much on suggestions given here, only your GP can advise. But here's my experience!

I suffer with the same discomfort and have done on and off for a couple of years now. First I was told costochrondritis, but it never really eased up, then gastritis, but medication didn't help, I paid for a private ultrasound as I was convinced it was an organ of some sort. Scan absolutely fine. So then I was referred for a gastroscopy to confirm the gastritis, nothing found, so biopsies for coeliac taken, negative.....it turned out to be nothing they could pinpoint, so possibly Functional Dyspepsia. Just one of those things I probably made worse with anxiety over it ! It eventually eased up. I still get it now and again, so I do think it's digestive in nature I just need to work out what foods are causing it! Sounds like this to me if it started after a take away.

Does it feel like you've been stabbed in the back?

I had this, it was stress

I have struggled with this type of pain since the start of the year - I had a CT scan in the summer and they found the left part of my liver was slightly enlarged although they have been unable to find out why, maybe also worth having this checked
