Strep Throat/Scarlet Fever..or just viral illness

Hi,
Just wandering if anyone has had anything similar and can offer advise.
My nearly 3 year old son suddenly became unwell on Friday afternoon with a fever and off food. He got progressively worse, very lethargic, drooling, rigors and temperature (calpol has been brining it down), very irritated etc.
Early hours of Sunday morning he vomited (for the first time ever), complained of having a headache and tummy pain.
Sunday evening I noticed his tounge is almost the ‘strawberry tounge’ described with Scarlet Fever. He has a red rash on the roof of his mouth. Still off food, drooling so much that he is saturating clothes and having to lay him on a towel. He is also covered in this rash all
over his tummy and back but it feels smooth to touch (maybe a little bit bumpy but definitely not sandpaper). Both cheeks are bright read and hot to touch and on his face he also has a strange rash that comes up and then disappears and then comes back again a few hours later, almost like he has sunburn.
he has not vomited since, but equally has not eaten much. Still drinking plenty but still not himself. I called 111 last night, they told me to go to A&E, I saw one of the doctors and he dismissed it as a viral infection. There has been a viral infection going around his nursery.
ive been doing a bit more reading about things since I’ve come home and now wondering if I should get a second option.
would really appreciate any advise x

Hi OP, so sorry your little one has this nasty illness :( looks like what my daughter had a few years back - roseola. Her face and the rash were the same!

it’s so hard to tell with little ones though.

I’d take comfort that you have had him looked at already and they have said virus…. But if you are uncomfortable and want a second opinion, maybe go to the walk in centre in the morning? There is no such thing as being too cautious with a little one xxx
