yesterday afternoon he did a poo (very little in his nappy)and then got hysterical about having his nappy changed which is unusual for him. This morning he did the same thing but when i took his nappy off could see the poo was stuck. It is huge and he just can't push it out.....

what should i do....it's not something i've ever encountered with him before and so i'm at a loss. Poor boy is happily playing for about 10 mins and then getting very upset about it.

loads of water, orange juice, prune juice, stuff like that...

You could try and give him a warm drink - sometimes that gives it a bit of a shove along.

Lie him on his back and lift his legs up towards his shoulders - that may help as well.

put vaseline around hit bot to try to help ease it out

glycerine suppositories work wonders too and very quickly but only in emergency cases like this not to be used regularly at all

up his water intake - softens stool as well

around hit his bot sorry

queenrollo · 27/04/2008 09:49

i had him laid on my bed and put his legs up towards his shoulders....i can see how big it is bless him. He runs out 'push' just at the vital moment....i tried putting some vaseline on his bum to see if that helped but it didn't.

He won't drink juice at all, only water....i'm trying to get it into him but he's just sat in a chair sulking now. I'm trying to get him out into the garden with me to run around but he's miserable and refusing.

can i get suppositories from Boots? i'm thinking maybe i'm going to have to do something, he's getting quite upset about it.

Get a watermelon, cut off the top and give him a spoon....

Always worked with dd.

chloesmumtoo · 27/04/2008 09:53

Oh poor lil thing. Yes try everything but if it gets to bad you could pop to the doctors on Monday and ask about Movicol Paediatric. My dd is on it at the moment, its a powder you disolve and give with liquid. It takes the liquid to the bowl which makes the stools soft. Good when you get to know the best dose for the child. My dd is 6yrs and only needs about half a sachet a day, but it works. Everyone swears by it on here!

dizzydixies · 27/04/2008 09:55

I had to get ours when we were in spain for dd2 so am not sure if you can get them in boots sorry

did you try to use the vaseline ahem extensively? its not a pleasant job for either of you but it might help him pass it

no wonder he's miserable

queenrollo · 27/04/2008 09:55

ok....he's just took himself off to his bedroom and shut the door. I left him to it for a few mintues and then he came out and he smelled. And didn't ask me to change his nappy....which is more like him.

I'm pleased to say that he has now managed to poo, and i'm not surprised it was making him uncomfortable.

He's now in the garden shouting for the neighbour (she lends him her grandaughters bike/trampoline etc) so i think i can say he's better

i found this about the suppositories but as I said we got them from the pharmacy in spain because the baby hadn't been for a week and was really upset with it

they weren't prescribed by a doc and I haven't needed them since so I can't tell you if you would get them prescribed over here -sorry
