Weird constipation situation

I have a situation where I have no pain and no straining when I try to go but for six weeks I've barely had a bowel motion.

I unwisely had chipper chips twice in one week and I didn't enjoy them. It felt like they stuck in my stomach. My system went very quiet and still and I lost my appetite.

I got fed up of this so eventually I took 4 senecot tablets for 5 days in a row. I had cramps and my bowels moved a few times. Then that was it, back to silent motionless digestive system.

I'm sure there's a lot more stuck inside me and I'm feeling really uncomfortable about it. I feel like it's all collecting somewhere high up as my lower abdomen feels normal and even my waist area feels normal. I'm overweight so it's not as clear cut as it could be.

So please, 1. What's going on and 2. How do I fix it?
I've been drinking loads of water and eating normally though possibly less than usual.

I got my gallbladder out a few years ago. Maybe that's why I couldn't digest the chips

Hi OP,
I had a very painful blockage ... months ago, so it's not like you in that way.
However what got my "system" moving was a herb (in capsule and or powder form) called Slippery Elm.
I use it now as a lifestyle thing, not just to shift that initial blockage.
Never looked back.
Hope it helps you if you try it.
The capsules you take AFTER food.
If you get the powder, look for the actual EXTRACT, as you will only need three gram's stirred into a smoothie for instance, the ordinary powder dose is ten grams, so a huge difference.

Thanks for that, I'll look for that supplement. I was thinking of taking dulcolax to see if it has any effect.

I'm not sure if this is a doctor issue or something I should try to fix on my own

Try going for a run or a long walk, that often helps!

It may well be a Dr situation.
I did consult my GP initially, and even got referred to the hospital for a scan, blood tests etc.
The scan is what showed the blockage, and I was advised I needed a tube with a camera down my throat to investigate further.
Well, the tube down the throat carries a percentage of “risk”, so while I was waiting for that appointment, I thought there was no harm in trying a non pharmaceutical solution.
was SO glad to have the slippery elm work for me, and I was able to cancel the tube investigation.
Note, I also agree that walking around can help constipation… it just didn’t work for me.

I think I have some kind of blockage but it feels high up, so in my small intestine rather than my colon. I have no way of knowing though.

The websites say that a blockage is accompanied by pain and that gas is unable to be passed. I have no pain and just a small amount of gas .

I've been taking a lot of exercise, loads of walking.

It's a couple of weeks later and I'm no better. Passing a minimal amount and my stomach feeling very quiet.

I took dulcolax, senecot and lactulose earlier. That was followed by loads and loads of wind but no cramps. I later had a largish bowel motion.

It's weird having no cramps. At the best of times I get cramps before my bowels move. Now there's nothing? I feel quite distended at this point but if anything I'm losing weight.

It's a mystery to me

I've been to the GP and he referred me for an x-ray. They got back to him and refused to do it, risk of radiation I think. Very unhelpful.

I have an appt to be examined again on Monday then referred for a colonoscopy

I haven't seen slippery elm anywhere but will keep it in mind

I've been three times to the Viva Mayr clinic in Austria. Their treatment is focussed on making the digestive system work perfectly, and every morning you are given Glaubersaltz to drink. It flushes you out.

If it doesn't work and you still feel blocked then you must see a doctor.

P.S. You mention you're overweight, I would suggest also eliminating all ultra-processed food from your diet. No calorie counting, but just eat whole non-processed foods. I lost 3 stone two years ago just following this rule. Previously I also had really bad acid reflux every night; it stopped within days of not eating processed food.

Suppositories are amazing for getting a bowel movement but still need to check what’s happening? Could u be pregnant?

Tradersinsnow · 21/11/2024 05:17

Insist on further investigation. With a history like that an xray is needed. How on earth are they going to do a colonoscopy if you are backed up?

Have you tried miralax/movicol or osmolax? Take the maximum dosage and then follow with dulcolax or senocot. The macrogols are stool softeners and the pills are irritants and they work in tandem. I had an impaction earlier this year and no cramping at all FWIW.

@Imnotanumber
You can get slippery elm capsules on amazon.
