Could it have been teething?

My LO is 4 weeks old and we have been in hospital for a few days this week after he spiked a temp Monday night. They couldn't find anything wrong and put it down to a virus, pumped him full of AB's and took gallons of blood. Today I noticed that there is a tiny hard white bit (looking like a tooth corner) on his gum that wasn't there before. He didn't have red cheeks, drooling, runny tum, etc. and was only 3 weeks when this all kicked off..could it really be that it was just teething and he's just freakishly early? I feel sooooo terrible that he went through all that already, if it was just teething i will feel even worse.

I'm no medical expert but wouldn't expect a temp with teething even that early. Poor little thing probably was feeling pretty rotten if he had a tooth coming through and a virus. Hope he's now on the mend. Don't torment yourself . We can only do what seems for the best at the time.
