DS 15 Rectal Bleeding

Hey

I will be making a GP appt tomorrow but my 15 yr old son has told me tonight he is loosing blood from his bottom. Red blood. One and off for 3 months. I'm not showing him I'm cross he didn't say anything sooner.
I'm trying not to go down a rabbit hole, but has anyone else experienced this with a teen?

You're doing the right thing by getting an appointment, as he needs a professional to assess him. On here it'll just be guesses!
If your son is otherwise healthy it's likely nothing too serious, perhaps something like anal fissure/hemorrhoids.

My DD had this and it was a fissure. Bowel cancer is basically unheard of in children so they don’t even consider it as a DDx.

most likely fissure or haemorrhoids but could be IBD. Doctors will screen accordingly.

DS 24 is seeking advice for the same. On and off for a long time. He has IBS.

I reassured him that he was a healthy and stable weight, and that it needs investigation but is very unlikely to be anything serious.
