Could this be appendicitis?

I’d be so grateful if you could share your experience of appendicitis symptoms.

I have had a few abdominal pain flare ups over the past few months mainly in my right side but it would radiate to my left. It eventually started to ease and I forgot about it however, the last couple of days I have had a horrible dull ache under the lower part of my rib cage that randomly intensifies enough to stop me in my tracks. I am unable to lift anything without it hurting, even flared up opening a jar of jam this morning.

This afternoon I started getting the lower right abdominal pain again too, currently having a hot bath to try and relieve it but I feel like there is a fist under my rib with a burning sensation and a crampy feeling in my lower right tummy. It can’t be gynae related as I had a radical hysterectomy a few years ago. I have also started pooping more almost to relieve the pressure I’m feeling.

Any thoughts from those who have experience, could this be a grumbling appendix? 🤔

Oh I never considered gallstones! Is that something that will go away on its own unlike appendicitis?

@tummytrouble111 what happened I'm having this now any news

AutumnLeaves24 · 10/11/2024 13:41

It's not how I experienced it, but mine never grumbled. It just let out an almighty temper tantrum and was removed within hours (apparently luckily as it was full of sepsis apparently)

best of luck getting whatever it is sorted out.

Galllstones
pancreatitis
cholecystitis
sounds like further investigation might be a good move

How old are you? Appendicitis is one of those 'extremes of life' things.

Deedoo · 10/11/2024 17:24

45 I had a ultrasound the dr said I didn't have it but I still get pain it moves to the left too

Deedoo · 10/11/2024 17:25

@AutumnLeaves24 did they scan your appendix

MrsSunshine2b · 10/11/2024 17:29

I recently had suspected appendicitis. Apparently it can go away on it's own.

It was quite low down, just above my pelvis, on the right hand side, which woke me up at around 4am. The GP was quite sure it probably was as there was rebound pain when she pressed deep and then let go. It also went away when my bladder was full and came back after I'd emptied it. The pain wasn't terrible, but she said it is often quite mild with appendicitis.

I had blood tests which showed the right blood profile for it, then throughout the day the pain got milder and milder until it was pretty much gone. By the time I had the CT scan at 6pm, there was barely any pain and the CT scan was normal.

The consultant said he suspected I'd had a mild infection which I'd fought off in the time I'd been waiting for the CT scan.

@Deedoo

I'm sorry, it was in 2016, it was all a bit chaotic in A&E they did bloods etc but I don't remember if I had a scan or not.. They said results wouldn't be in until the morning, I think something to with what they were doing taking hours (rather than not being done because it was too busy) I went in at 3pm, didn't get into a ward until about 11pm. I was getting settled in, expecting to go to bed, when a lovely chirpy surgeon appeared to say they were taking it out, hadn't had results yet, but he was 'pretty sure' it would be my appendix. I wasn't thrilled about that, but he was so nice & so sure I just went with it!

the next day he came to say it was my appendix & I was lucky because it was full of sepsis & about burst, almost definitely would have before the morning.

they took it out keyhole, my stomach was like I was overdue! Huge, took ages for the gas to dissipate!!

I have had other ops since then (unrelated) so the 'scans' blur into each other. Sorry. Why do you ask?? (It might jog my memory). I remember getting the GA there was a lovely nurse there, reassuring me I'd be fine (I was having a bit of a panic due to the chaos beforehand & being overweight & older! (All of 47!!) that I'd die under the GA). She was lovely.

AutumnLeaves24 · 10/11/2024 18:21

@MrsSunshine2b I was surprised how low the pain was, I'd always imagined it more inline with your belly button, but it was much lower.

i still get the odd twinge, but doesn't last long. I sssume it's just something digestive going on🤷🏻‍♀️

tummytrouble111 · 10/11/2024 21:57

No updates from me, I am going to book a GP appt this week as the pain is still coming and going. I’ll update when I’ve been. Hope you’re ok and it’s nothing serious 🤗

@tummytrouble111 do you get pain in your back? Iv had mine a few weeks now but started in the back funnily enoigh and right side and I thought it was a pulled muscle.

tummytrouble111 · 11/11/2024 09:08

@Deedoo not so much back pain, it can go very to the side almost the same place you feel stitch pain if that makes sense. Ive been up since 4am with the pain, it’s moved quite low down on my right side and I feel like a bowel movement relieves it for a few seconds then it’s gradually worse. No surprise but couldn’t get a doctors appt so will see how I get on and call again in the morning. Hope you’re feeling ok, wonder if it could be kidney related if pain radiating to your back?
