DS2 has got a small splinter in his finger. I can't get it out because there is nothing to get hold of with tweezers IYKWIM.
Is there anything I should do or do I just leave it. TIA

Leave it if possible, they normally come out on their own.

If your ds is anything like mine though he will probably whinge about it for ever in which case you might need to sterilise a needle and dig it out!

you could try some antiseptic cream like germolene and a plaster over it, it may draw it out. you'll see it in the plaster when you take it off. or soak it in salt water and see if you can squeeze it out.

ps i'm not medical, this is just what my mum used to do to us as kids!

thanks for the replies, sorry it took so long to get back but its been one of them days. I have just left it because I dont think DS will keep a plaster on, but may need to resort to that later

When ds2 was about 5, he took a running jump at a telegraph pole, thinking that he would slide down it as if it were a fireman's pole.

The inside of his thighs from groin to knee were embedded with splinters as a result!

Trip to the nurse at the GP's surgery, and she tried to get some of them out but he howled the place down, so her advice was just to leave them and they would come out of their own accord.

If I remember, all we did to treat (it not being easy to stick plasters over such an area of skin!) was firstly to let him soak in a long hot bath and then to cover the area with Germolene.

They didn't trouble him much and did all disappear quite quickly. I have no idea where they went though!

Keep an eye on it. If you don't manage to get it out it could become infected and then your child would need antibiotics.
