Vertigo? Virus? Something else?

Had an extreme episode of vertigo which lasted a minute two weeks ago. Since then I've had dizziness everyday. I've tried doing the epley manoeuvre which hasn't done anything. I thought it was BPPV but maybe not.

I am dizzy all day, headache at the back of my head where my spine joins my skull, not an earache per se but ear feels odd, full somehow and my cartilage on the outside is sore when touched. I have pressure in my sinuses but my nose isn't blocked or runny at all. No temperature but have been having muscle aches and cramps. But my main symptom is dizziness, which over the half term has been the last thing I've needed with 3 kids off school.

It seems not bad enough to go to the doctor, but it's really affected my quality of life and ability to function over the past two weeks. Is it just a virus that will run its course? Should I be more concerned? Covid?

Would seeing a vestibular therapist benefit me?

I'd say go to the doctor - the rule of thumb seems to be symptoms which last over 3 weeks, as a lot of things that are part and parcel of viral infections seem to clear up spontaneously.

Dizziness and vertigo can definitely be a feature of both covid and long covid, so that strikes me as a strong contender for the cause

But if you're worried ring 111 and get proper advice

Have you flown recently? Definitely see a doctor. You need a proper diagnosis. I had viral labyrinthitus. Vertigo , tinnitus etc. Deaf in one ear now.

Go to GP. It could be labrynthitis or meuniers. Not sure why you think it's not bad enough to see a GP?

No sadly not flown anywhere, I wish! Did your labrynthitis come on suddenly or slowly? I just feel like my symptoms are mild that they wouldn't give me an appointment on the day so almost what's the point in phoning them? Also it would have been impossible to fit in this week and have to take all the kids with me to the doctor.

I've put in an econsult now so the doctor will get back to me by end of day Monday if they think I need to see someone. Really hoping it subsides and just goes away!

I suppose having 3 children has made me squash my needs down and I can only attend to them if there's something more worrisome going on I guess. As I would have to get my DH to take time off work to look after them so I could see the doctor and as it may be nothing serious it seems like a waste of time
