Growth on tonsil 2 week referral - help!

CosyDog · 01/11/2024 22:26

I have a 5 year history of sinus issues and tonsil stones. I have had tonsillitis a fair few times also.

I became poorly around 8 weeks ago with flu-like symptoms and swollen tonsils. Every time I get tonsillitis or very swollen tonsils, I develop extra pockets and craters on my tonsils which worsen my tonsil stone issue. When I became poorly, I developed an extra bit on my tonsil which hasn't gone away since.

I contacted my GP today, expecting him to say its an extra pocket or something which has developed, but instead he is sending off a 2 week wait referral for suspected cancer 😳 although says he is 99% sure it isn't, and has written on the referral form he thinks it's unlikely. I can't help but panic though 😕 Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Thanks in advance ☺️

I just want to say I think it's brilliant you have noticed that and they are looking at it so quickly. My Mum recently had something similar that turned out to be ok after having it removed and that 2 week pathway is brilliant. Hope it turns out to be nothing.

Thank you so much for replying ☺️ Can I ask what it was that she had? How quickly did she have it removed?

Dentist here. Try not to worry. Looks benign. Might be a wee polyp or scar tissue. Great though that your doctor pushing to get you seen quickly.
What age are you? Do you smoke /drink? Likely you aren't in a high risk category but even if you are, it doesn't look sinister x

@CosyDog she had a squamous cell pre-cancer. They gave her a biopsy in the 2 weeks and a few scans and then she went in a few weeks later and had it removed.

Hello Wyse, thank you for replying! I'm 35, I don't smoke or drink.

Hoglet70 Oh gosh, I hope your mum is OK now? ❤️

@CosyDog yep, she is all good thank you. Got to have regular checks now but they took everything away.

CosyDog · 02/11/2024 13:29

@Hoglet70 I'm glad she is OK now, that must have been a worry for you.

It was quite scary but the doctors/hospital were so quick and so good. I still cannot get over the speed with which they did everything.
