Graves’ disease

Hi. I’d like to know if full blood count(FBC) can detect Graves’ disease. I’m suffering from exactly the same symptoms as Graves’ disease including bulging eyes, fatigue, anxiety, difficulty sleeping and rapid heartbeat. But the blood test result came out as negative for Graves’ disease.

I think you need a Thyroid Function Test to detect Graves. This is a different test to the FBC, although it would be reasonable to do an FBC alongside a TSH, as some of the symptoms you mention could be caused by anaemia (which would be detected by an FBC).

Thank you for your comment. I wonder why the GP gave me an FBC instead of a thyroid function test while I told her my concern of Graves’ disease.
