Unbelievably freaking out so any reassurance is welcome.
I’m 27 and had a baby 4 months ago. I suffered with piles during the end of my pregnancy & since birth. These are still present now.
Over the last few weeks Iv had fresh red blood on wiping and on my stool.
I went to the doctors about it today, hoping for just reassurance & ended up coming away feeling worse. She wants a stool sample of me & bloods doing. She did have a look down there & said she can visibly see piles which do hurt when touched. But my mind is so fixated on the fact she wants a stool sample now and I’m convinced something is going to come back on it like bowel cancer I just want to enjoy my baby 😭

My dad got diognosed with bowel cancer 5 months ago and just had surgery and a stoma bag fitted so this feels all very to raw for me. Any reassurance is welcome 😭🙏🏼

The gp is just being thorough especially with your family history even though it's blatantly obvious it's piles. I really wouldn't worry. It's rare for bright red blood to be an issue as its fresh. It's more of a problem when it's black or looks like coffee grounds

Yep I agree with previous poster, I work in a GP surgery andour doctors seem to give out a lot of Fit tests and stool sample pots. It will just be as a precaution.

Your welcome. It's completely understandable your worried especially with what's going on with your dad and the fact you've just had a baby but like pp said these tests are really common. Iv had several. They've always came back clear i would imagine 99% they give out do . It's just a easy and cheap test that drs can do to rule something out quickly so that it can be forgotten about, it's like a tick sheet.

They come back quite quickly and even if they do detect any traces of blood, the most common cause is a pile or tiny tear from constipation.

I can't tell you not to worry because you will. But having such a simple way to screen is great.

Thank you for your advice and response im terrified

Greebosmum · 30/04/2025 20:34

I have done this twice now, hubby 3 times. It's just routine, like a smear or mammogram. Extremely unlikely to find anything wrong. I know when you're anxious it's difficult, but do try not to worry. Xx
