Bright 'blob' in vision, could this be related to aura migraine?

I have suffered with aura migraine since I became pregnant with my first DC 20 years ago. Starts off with a weird feeling where I lose a small area of vision and that area then develops a small psychedelic zig zag flashy thing which gets larger and lays right across my vision leaving me unable to see that well for 20-30 mins then it will gradually move across my field if vision and away (I've added a pic to show what it looks like for me).

I would suffer from one almost every month on the third day of my period, so for me they must be hormonal. Two years ago I had a uterine ablation and iron infusions and since then I only get a full aura migraine a few times per year (they still scare the hell out of me though).

However, I have also suffered from this strange phenomenon for years where I will suddenly lose a tiny part of my vision in just one eye (each time it's a different part of my vision and can be either eye, never the exact same place twice) and it will then develop into a tiny version of the zig-zag thing and when I blink against a white background or the sky it's very visible but often can't see It against black backgrounds unlike the aura which I still see even with my eyes closed. It doesn't move away like the aura but gradually fades over a few mins although has lasted an hour or so before.

I have just had one of these and I now feel exhausted, I have no idea what causes it.

I've mentioned it to GPs and opticians and none of them can really tell me what it is. I've googled and can't find much either. The only people I've found with similar issues is on a FB group called 'Bright spot when blinking'. No one on their has gotten to the root of the issue either.

Has anyone experienced this?

Yes, you can get that with a visual migraine.

I get a lot of aura only migraines and I've had the bright spot in my vision a few times - it usually lasts from a few hours to a week or so. It's like the after effect of looking at a camera flash. When I told my Optician about it he said, "Oh I've had that too, it's never occurred to me to worry about it." Smile
I get little bright flashes and other visual weirdness, he says they're all normal. I think they're either due to migraines or stress.

I get similar too OP as well as getting migraines with the more typical aura as you describe. And hormonaly or tiredness/stress linked as yours are. I have the odd weird blind spot as you describe and it only last a short while, not develop any further and then disappear.

I had to have a blind spot investigated a couple of years ago which was similar but it stayed for days. Turned out to be a burst blood vessel on my retina. Nothing was done at the hospital aside a couple of consultant led checks. It's either disappeared now or I've got so used to it, I don't see it anymore.

I get this and mentioned it to my optician. They said it was a classic visual migraine. I usually feel a little bit naseous and sinusy with it.

Sometimes focussing on something in the far distance helps a bit.

Thank you everyone, I did wonder if this was some kind of visual migraine.

Yes I occasionally get the kaleidoscope zig zags. It's a bit scary and weird but not unusual I understand.
