Has anyone ever heard of/had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy (sp) at the same time? My DH has to have this to confirm non ulcer dysepsia, the consultant was foreign, and im not sure if i understood right?

a colonoscopy is a type of endoscopy

cluckyagain · 24/04/2008 16:57

Nope - but if he is going to be heavily sedated/picolax 'ed' (big fat laxative) perhaps it's a good idea!

Well he's having one in both ends at the same time apparently

An 'oscopy' is just having a camera poked in the relevant bit. I had a minor out-patient op last year and shared a room with a lady having endoscopy. She has an anaesthetic sprayed in ther throat and said that the procedure was slightly unpleasant but not uncomfortable or painful. Don't know anything about colonoscopy but it's probably similar.

I've had a 'hysteroscopy' which is a camera looking into the womb. They inflate the womb first (either with fluid or carbon dioxide) to get a better view. I had to have that done under GA but I had no discomfort at all afterwards.

Im not sure if they do sedation anymore

loopy - may as well - at least it gets it out of the way.

I just honestly didnt think they could look at the bowela nd the stomach at the same time, my mums had both procedures but seperatley and she doesnt see how they could manage both at once, poor DH

yes they can do them togather - not literally at the same time but one after another.

CA, thats not a bad way of looking at it
