Any idea what this rash could be?

This has just popped up on my upper arm in the last few hours - red and itchy. Wasn't there this morning when I had a shower!

Haven't used any new products or anything - I'm guessing some kind of allergic reaction? I've taken an antihistamine which seems to have calmed it down a bit.

Could be the start of shingles

ginasevern · 20/10/2024 16:50

Looks a bit like german measles but that usually starts behind the ears or on the face and then spreads.

coffeesaveslives · 20/10/2024 16:52

Interesting, I've googled shingles but I don't have any other symptoms and it doesn't tingle or hurt. It's also not blisters, just red bumps.

I'm vaccinated against German measles so assume it can't be that? It also doesn't look like that rash from what I can see.

It looks like an allergic reaction of some sort to me. Have you been out in the garden at all, or leaned on a fence, something like that?

coffeesaveslives · 20/10/2024 16:59

I've been out @TentEntWenTyfOur but don't remember coming into contact with anything unusual, I just let the dog out and then got the cats in!

Typically it seems to be fading now - I took an antihistamine and the bumps have shrunk massively so I'm guessing some kind of allergy Confused

Okay, so this has got a lot worse and I've booked a GP appt. for tomorrow.

It's now red, scaly, raised and sore. I'm guessing some kind of infection!

Turns out you were right @dementedpixie - been started on antiviral tablets as well as a topical cream.

Hope you get some relief soon @coffeesaveslives

LoafofSellotape · 23/10/2024 17:47

Have you tried hydrocortisone cream?

coffeesaveslives · 23/10/2024 17:53

Thanks @dementedpixie

I've been given cream from the GP @LoafofSellotape :)
