Anyone had unexplained hives?

I woke up this morning covered in hives! The ones on my feet were horribly itchy, the others a bit less so, but they are everywhere apart from my face (thankfully only a couple there). I took an antihistamine and the itching has eased, but there are still red lumps all over and they are starting to itch again and I can’t take another pill until the morning.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the GP with a suspected kidney infection and then had a reaction to the antibiotics so I’m on something different. I’ve been feeling generally run down and I think my glands are up. I’m going out for a meal with friends tomorrow evening, first time the four of us have met up in a long while, and I’m all blotchy!

No idea what caused them - I wish I knew. I had sushi for dinner yesterday but I have that regularly (teriyaki salmon was new). Is there anything I can do to make them look less angry? I’m going to try calamine lotion for the itching before bed, but welcome any and every suggestion. Generally I just wanted a moan!

My kids get this. Usually after a day or so they come down ill with a virus. One time it was a chest infection and the next time it was strep throat. The hives are an immune response so it’s generally your body fighting something.

Loads of us on this forum!

In adults mostly hives just appear because they feel like it and go away in a few days.

If you have drawn the short straw you get stuck with them - I've taken a daily antihistamine for years to keep mine under control. When they are bad I have up to 4x the normal dose.

Thank you - it is the first time I have ever had something like this and I am completely thrown by it. Currently trying to mask the worst of it before my daughter’s birthday party this morning…
