I know diclofenac it's prescribed orally in the UK because of effects on stomach. The gel (volterol and other brands) is available ott.
I read that even topical treatment can affect the stomach. Does anyone know if this is true and if so how can it?
I have arthritis both osteo and rheumatoid and I find it really useful on fingers and toes but I have a history of gastritis.

I find the gel marvellous but you need to be careful if you take dicolfenac orally or Naproxen. You might exceed maximum dose which I think is 1000mg daily.
Deep heat is good. I have RA and fibromaylgia.

I use 12 hour on prescription for my osteoarthritis and other pain ( I only take paracetamol)allergic to other pain meds.
It's on the skin so doesn't cause an issue with stomach.

I find it very helpful and reduces need for oral painkillers.

It's on the skin so doesn't cause an issue with stomach.

That's what I thought and that's logical but Google tells me even topical use can affect the stomach. I was hoping someone who knows pharmacology might know?

Yes it can irritate the stomach but it’s less likely to that taking it orally.
