Early morning retching

Good morning.
My 21year old son had covid in July and has fully recovered and is generally very well. However, since then, he has an episode of retching/gagging every morning followed by an extreme coughing episode. Afterwards, he is fine for the rest of the day.
He's booked a GP appt for next week but I just wondered if anyone had heard of/experienced this. Thanks

It's one of my post-covid symptoms. Worse in morning, but also if I bend, go upstairs, walk at a normal speed or go uphill. I've not got any advice, except trying to move even slower to reduce sickness. Hope he finds something that works for him, and if he does, please post it!

Has he got reflux? Is it something like anti acids could help with?

I've given him some Rennies but they haven't worked so far.

I was thinking something like Nexium which is OTC. Or see your GP (if possible) as it's a symptom of a bigger condition. Omeprazole or something like that?

He's been prescribed lanzoprazole and it's working a treat!
