Coeliac diagnosis

Hi!

I have hashimotos, pernicious anaemia and low ferritin.

I had the ttg test for coeliacs and came back as less than one. GP said definitely negative for coeliacs but I have since paid for a private consultation with a gastroenterologist and he said that less than one on the iga ttg test indicates potential iga deficiency so doesn’t rule coeliacs out? He’s referring me back to my gp with his recommendation for further testing.

Has anyone had a less than one result and gone on to be diagnosed coeliac through other immunoglobulin blood tests?

I am in a very similar boat with my ds at the moment. His first coeliacs test came back as positive but not through the roof figures, they repeated it and it came back negative with a IGA-TTG of 0.7 so potential deficiency. Seeing paediatric consultant next week to decide what the next steps are. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm loathe to put my boy through any more tests as he has autism, faints at blood tests and his anxiety is through the roof over all the medical tests he's had to endure this year (not just bloods) this on top of the "coeliac" symptoms he's already suffering.

My blood tests were all normal, I was diagnosed after duodenal biopsies showed flattened villi, classic coeliac disease. I have seronegative coeliac disease. I also had the genetic test and have the DQ2 gene. I have other autoimmune issues.

Don't know the scores but my blood test was negative for coeliac although other blood results showed several deficiencies. Diagnosed coeliac by colonoscopy.

I would imagine that would be quite a distressing procedure for your boy.

I’ve definitely seen people in the coeliac support groups be negative on blood test and positive on endoscopy. With your medical history it’s right to question coeliac.

You need an endoscopy
