If you've had scabies

Did everyone in your household get infected?

I have a feeling I have scabies. Weird pinprick/burning feeling that pops up here and there and some red dots that come and go.

I have had no physical contact with anyone so if I do it will have been unlucky through travelling or trying on clothes or something.

Can't make a GP appointment so will try to find a private dermatologist.

I have read such horror stories. It will be a pain if I have it but I can manage it. However I am really worried in case my DC get it.

I know this will just be anecdotal but I'm wondering if you had it, how much it spread in your family.

Thank you

I'd take an antihistamine to start with if they are itchy. I don't know what part of the body you were showing with the raised stops, but scabies that I've seen don't look like that. Thankfully, never had it myself, but colleagues have and I've seen it first hand when I used to work in A&E years ago.
Can I ask why you think you need a dermatologist at this stage??? I'd show a pharmacist first, and only then, if their treatment isn't working see your GP!

Thanks @JC03745 the picture was the middle of my back.

Since then just single hives in multiple different locations.

You're right, it doesn't really justify seeing a dermatologist just yet, it was just in case it could be scabies I wanted to catch it early. Some days the itching has been very distracting so I do want to get to the bottom of it. But then other days I have been fine.

As it happens because of work I won't be able to see anyone until next week so maybe there will be more clues by then.

@Scabiesor apologies if I'm wrong but are you the poster who posted about bedbugs the other day?

DaphneDahlia · 08/10/2024 14:25

Yes many years ago. My baby or husband didn't get it, but husband had to be treated at the same time. The itching is enough to drive you crazy and it's many weeks after the treatment until the itching stops.

I'm back! After a couple of weeks with mild itchiness some days and no itchiness at all other days I had moved on from the scabies theory.

But today has been so bad! My back has been so itchy, though I only have a few pinprick spots to show for it. Same on my knee. I am also itchy along my bra line and underwear line, as well as thighs. Basically where there is clothing that's tight/rubs.

Those locations do seem to point to scabies. Would the itching come and go like this then suddenly ramp up?

Did you show it to a pharmacist? They are pretty good at diagnosing it. Hope for your sake it wasn’t (I’m in my second week and seriously would never wish this in my worst enemy!)

Scabiesor · 06/11/2024 07:45

@itchingskin, it wasn't thankfully . Itchy episodes got fewer and further between, still no rash after 6 weeks since it first started so I think I would know by now.

I haven't shown it to anyone as I have nothing to show, any hives/spots disappeared quickly, my skin is completely clear, just "phantom" pinpricks and itches.

Was yours easily recognisable? Do you have any idea how you caught it? Hope you feel better soon!

Have you change washing detergent?

Oh that’s good to hear!

No idea - a few weeks previously I got the train into London for a conference. and it was standing room only so we were tightly packed in - but it wouldn’t have been skin to skin contact - just outer clothes. That’s the only change in my routine really as I work from home 😂so rarely have contact with anyone other than my husband and boys and they’re all fine! Bit of a mystery.
