Can anyone recommend a Fitness DVD that really works?!?!

I used to be a bit of a fitness freak - lots of running, cycling, gym classes - nearly every day . Then I had my DD about 9 months ago and all of a sudden I have something more important in my life than exercise! I have also just started back at work in the City 4 days a week.

Whilst I can get out for the odd run, I can't afford to join a gym up here and don't have the time at lunchtime.

I'm looking for a proper fitness DVD that I can do for about half an hour in the evening a few nights a week. I don't need to loose weight, just tone up and keep the old ticker healthy. There are just so many DVD's out there I don't know where to begin! Anyone found a good one?

I love Davina Mcalls. It's called Davina, my three 30minute workouts.

It has a Pump workout using weights, a Cardio Box workout and a core Stability work out. My favorite is the cardio Box.

It's nice to be able to choose which one you feel like doing.

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2008 17:00

Davina's first two are fab. The one MrsJB describes (cardiobox is good I agree) and her other one which is an hour split into 20min sections (legs/abs and bums/upper body) and you can do all of it or pick and choose. They are very, very good.

If you want something a bit more cv and certainly more intense, go for Nell McAndrew.

I've heard great things about Davina's DVDs. Got it for Christmas (the 3 x 30 min one) and have never taken it out of the cellophane wrap!

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2008 17:01

Other Davina dvd is called 'Power of 3'. Based on interval training (as is the other dvd) and even my personal trainer of a dh approves.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 22/04/2008 18:44

cake?

Nell McAndrews nearly killed me, I usually manage about 10 minutes before curling into a ball, rolling into the corner panting something along the lines of "stop it, please, turn it off, I can't do it"

Certainly more intense..... You are spot on there. All though I am a lardy, wine drinking, paté eating half French bird as you know.

Ledodgy · 22/04/2008 18:46

Davina's high energy five is fab it has 5 20 minute sections and you choose two each time.

ShowOfHands · 22/04/2008 19:49

I find screaming 'bitch' at the screen helps MrsJB.

I'll have some of your lemon drizzle if you can wrestle it off H. No pate though on account of it being woodfiller dressed up as food.

You need to change your name btw as you are no biffa. You're a svelte and styled wee thing.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 22/04/2008 20:24

Hmmmm I'll try the screaming technique next time I feel like a personal torture. On the name change front, I've been thinking but like you with SOH I have a feeling MrsJB is not gonna go away.

Kathy Smith Matrix Method (30-40 mins long not post natal) or Lindsey Brim Post natal boot camp (has a 12 week programme you can follow) - both quite hard but short workouts.

ratbunny · 22/04/2008 21:33

catstar - you sound like me! I used to exercise so much I was almost bionic. Now I am flabby and unfit, but with a gorgeous 14mo ds!

watching this thread with interest...

I also rate Davina McCall's power of three-best DVD I've tried.

No rubbish "grapevines" and complicated moves. Three sections, lower body/arms/abs with one minute fat burning intervals every so often. I did it on Thursday last week for the first time in ages and could hardly walk at the weekend

colacubes · 22/04/2008 21:46

I have a friend who is a fitness fanatic and she swears by Nell Mc Andrew, she thinks its brill, I on the other hand have a varied collection that have never been used, they just sit there making me feel guilty.

catstar · 23/04/2008 09:39

Oooh - thanks Ladies! I think a lunchtime look on Amazon might be in order today. Sounds like Davina and Nell McAndrew get the thumbs up. Show of Hands - good to know Davina gets the nod from a personal trainer.

We've just moved offices and are on the 8th floor - I walked up the stairs this morning and it just made it even more obvious that I need to start doing some proper exercise. Strolling with the puchchair just doesn't cut the mustard any more!!!
