Pleurisy... please help

This is the worse pain I've ever had. Worse than childbirth. I've been diagnosed this week following a chest infection. It hurts to move, breathe, cough. I'm in tears. It seems to be just one side.

Anyone had it before? How long is it likely to last? I'm on antibiotics, ibuprofen and paracetamol and have a hot water bottle

Oh bless you, pleurisy is dreadful Flowers

Carry on with your painkillers, if you’re on ibuprofen regularly then ask your GP for something like omeprazole or lansoprazole as it can be very harsh on your stomach.

Get as much rest as you can, it’s usually easier and more comfortable to lie on the affected side. Also get up and move around frequently in between resting to avoid further complications from the chest infection.

Eat good, nutritious food (that someone else has made for you, if possible!)

Can last anyway from a few days to a few weeks, unfortunately, although I sincerely hope it’s the former.

Feel better ❤️

It's unbelievably painful, I really feel for you. You've got to rest and really take it easy, I ended up in hospital for a week with it and tbh took me months to get back to fighting for. Really hope you get better soon x

Can you get some mullein and marshmallow root from Amazon? Mullein drink like herbal tea and marshmallow root pop in cold water overnight and drink next day.

I remember the pain - I thought I was having a heart attack. I was off work for two weeks and for a few years after I was susceptible to throat infections and the GP would immediately sign me off again. I hope you feel better soon..

When did you start your antibiotics? When I had pneumonia with pleurisy I started to feel significantly less horrendous after 48 hours of AB but I can’t remember how long it took to shift altogether. I was back at work ~2 weeks later. (Edit to correct to 48 hrs.)

Thank you for all your lovely words and reassurance because I was actually worried that it was something more serious the pain I am in.

@RomComPhooey I started the antibiotics on Tuesday and although they helped with the flu like symptoms it's the pain in my chest and one side of my back when I move, cough or take deep breathes. That doesn't seem to be getting worse but it's also not getting better.

Have you had a cough with your symptoms? You may have strained muscles as well & that could be contributing to the pain. If it’s worrying you perhaps try 111 and see what they advise.

@RomComPhooey I have had an awful cough and Gp did say it could be musculoskeletal through the coughing but I'm in so much pain. I don't feel poorly in my self but when I cough, move, sneeze or deep breathe it's agony. I'm tempted to call GP again tomorrow as I'm really worried about the severity of the pain I'm in.

Oh you poor thing. I had it ten years ago and I’ll never forget the pain. One thing I did find that helped was heat. I laid on a hot water bottle (my pain was in my back) and then managed to get hold of a heating pad. It did help a bit.
