Bitter taste in mouth

Hi all. I see there are previous posts about this but hoping someone can offer ideas. I have a bitter taste in my mouth. Its constant and started a few days ago. Mid 40s, def not pregnant, oral hygiene good, feeling healthy and not changed anything in my diet. Any ideas? Has anyone had this and have it gone away? I would say it's mainly my tongue that tastes bitter/sour. Tried salt gargling too. Thanks

Could it be reflux? When my reflux started I had the same taste in my mouth, especially when waking up. Try gaviscon or similar to see if it helps.

If it carries on even with gaviscon it could still be reflux but a stronger medicine needed.

I get this and have been told it's silent reflux. It started when I was 45 and I am pretty sure perimenopause is playing a part.
Gaviscon helps a little but you could try a short course of something like Omeprazole see if it helps?

Silent reflux or a tooth issue.

Thanks ladies I did wonder about reflux but would that be the only symptom? Just a butter taste?

Reflux , and yes can be the only symptom.

TeaandHobnobs · 01/10/2024 18:57

Could you have tonsil stones?

Itsgettingbettetman · 02/10/2024 20:49

Most likely acid reflux, probably occuring whilst you sleep. Take an antacid and avoid greasy, acidic foods before bed. Best to eat 4-5 hours before sleeping.

Could also be tooth infection, unlikely if no pain however.

I agree with reflux. I also had this

I’m going through the same problem - seems it’s a perimenopause symptom so hormone related. It’s truly awful. My tongue feels burnt also.

TheSpottedZebra · 18/10/2024 00:18

Have you had pine nuts recently?

MiddleAgedDread · 18/10/2024 07:54

I had that too @Clairelouise22 it felt like my tongue was burning and had a really metallic taste in my mouth. Don't think I've had it since I started on HRT!
