What is this fresh hell?

Out of the blue, constant, agonising leg cramp. From the top of the leg, right down to the calf. Cramps not pain as such.

By lunchtime I practically had to crawl to the kitchen to make a cuppa, kneeling seems to take the pain away. My calf is actually twitching from the cramps.

Is it sciatica? Trapped nerve? Are there meds? exercises? A knife to remove to the limb?

Sounds like sciatica

JanglingJack · 26/09/2024 20:49

Knife to remove the limb I think...

You're welcome.

So it's not like when your calf cramps normally - agony. Down the back of your leg?
Sciatica is very painful, but I don't remember any twitching. Just shooting pains. It does sound nervy, can you get to your GP in morning, or call them at least?

Can you sit and stretch the leg out, feet facing up? Actually don't do anything as I don't know what it is.

GP first thing. Sorry no help.

I would actually call 111 as back pain shouldn't be messed with.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 27/09/2024 02:11

Thanks both. There’s no back pain as such, though it’s all connected according to google. It’s just the entire one leg. I’m wondering if it’s sciatica and if so it’s just pain relief, exercises and waiting for it to bugger off.

I can stretch it out, it just hurts more. It’s exactly like cramp, but whereas that comes and goes, you give it a rub, few mins and it’s gone. This isn’t going… if I could still walk properly I’d put up with it, but I can’t.

Everything else is cooking on gas, there are no lumps, discolouration, nothing. 😩

I got a few hours sleep anyway, funnily enough I can’t lie on that side, too painful. I can’t bring myself to ring 111 with cramp, as agonising as it is.

Magnesium salts in a hot bath and try and massage? McKenzie method of stretching and walking along a hard pavement sometimes helps sciatica based leg pain
The quinine in a G&T is meant to help Grin

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 27/09/2024 12:47

A G&T sounds good @Keroppi 😂
I’ve read magnesium is meant to be good too. All with a go- thank you!

Does it hurt more if you stretch your toes up towards your shin? Have you been particularly inactive/long journey/flight recently? Just considering dvt although that would usually start as more localised

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 27/09/2024 18:10

@BluebellPalooza Thank you- Just doing that… and no. No long journeys either, desk job, rain- elderly dog and lack of motivation so possibly lack of movement (I do move around the house/ housework).
G.P had a good rummage around, the skin is fine etc. Still painful, I wish I’d asked if I should rest or move around! and a diagnosis would’ve been good, but never mind.
