FLEAS

I am just looking for some advice as I am at wits end. I discovered I have a flea infestation. This was really strange to me as I have no pets, and no pets have been in my house. I saw them jumping up at my ankles as I got out of bed and I was being bitten like crazy. I hired some professionals to fumigate the house, which they did 2 days ago. I made sure to hoover everywhere before they came. I also bagged up all clothing and teddies for 24 hours, and put bedding on a hot wash and tumble I am still waking up with bites, and seeing fleas jump up. Is this normal?! It is really affecting me as I feel uncomfortable in my own home and the bites are unexplainably itchy. Someone please help!

Use insecticide, can use a fogger but tape over smoke detectors. A steam cleaner on carpet can help. Have you checked for rodents?

ivysmummy101 · 26/09/2024 17:24

@JDob Thank you for this info! The company I used told me to wait another 10 days before using more product as they seem to think the fleas I’m seeing are from new eggs that have hatched. I live in a new build and I don’t think there would be anywhere for a rodent to hide. My neighbours have cats that sometimes sit in my garden. Possibly from them?

It would seem unlikely that cats sitting in your garden could give you fleas unless they've got into your house somehow. I sympathise, as the bites are horribly itchy. I agree with getting a fogger.

Notdeckingthehalls · 26/09/2024 18:33

Are you new to the property?

Fontainebleau007 · 26/09/2024 18:42

Indorex flea spray.
Though I would agree with the company it could be new fleas hatching.
Hoover everywhere, skirting boards, carpets, sofas, mattresses. Put bedding and towels etc on hottest wash as you're doing. You may need to repeat the cycle, they won't be gone overnight.

I would stay away from Bob Martin products as they have proven to be dangerous. (I work in the animal care sector)

Honestly they're a pain, I absolutely hate them! Good luck OP.

Boidont · 26/09/2024 19:39

@SparklesandRainbows have they proven to be dangerous to humans? OP has no pets.

Fontainebleau007 · 26/09/2024 19:41

@Boidont ah yes thanks for pointing that out, re read and saw they have no pets 👍🏼

Time4changeagain · 26/09/2024 20:23

Got to agree with @SparklesandRainbows Virbac Indorex is really good

justasking111 · 26/09/2024 20:26

Hoover every day and put dust outside in the bin. They'll keep hatching unfortunately.

Thank you everyone! I will buy some product and keep doing as I’m doing. Just want to stop getting bitten 😭 never experienced itching like it!

When we had cat fleas some years ago, we were told by Rentokil that it's the skirting board are that needs to be sprayed, as that's where they hide.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 27/09/2024 14:59

I third the virbac indorex spray. I've been fighting an infestation from possibly a visiting dog, when I switched to virbac from bob Martin it finally sorted it.

Thanks everyone! I bought 2 cans of the Bob Martin flea spray and I sprayed literally everywhere. Fingers crossed it works! I really wonder how we got fleas as I’ve not had anyone in the house nor any pets. My neighbours do have 2 cats and we are semi detached, but I can’t imagine they got in from them?

Indorex would of been better!

spiderlight · 28/09/2024 20:24

Indorex is the best spray by far.

ivysmummy101 · 30/09/2024 16:42

The fleas have completely gone!! Not seen one since I used the spray. I’m going to hoover and re-spray in a few days, in 2 weeks and again in a couple months. I’ve spoken to my neighbour who is semi detached and they have confirmed their cats have fleas! So I’m wondering if they’ve somehow travelled into my house?
