Glaucoma eye drops

I've been diagnosed with normal tension glaucoma and have had to start using eyedrops. But they make my eyes feel sore and uncomfortable. I'm hoping this will wear off and wondered if anyone had experienced similar discomfort?

Which drops are you using?

Hedgerow2 · 25/09/2024 00:36

Lotacryn eye drops at bedtime followed 10 minutes later by a smear of Xalin Night.

Through the day Thealoz.

My MIL, who had to have glaucoma medication, was prescribed Hypromellose eye drops IIRC.

Ah lotacryn same as me. Makes your eyelashes grow. Haven't had Xalin. I'm on four different eye drops so my eyes get very sore. What does help is artificial tears during the day to moisturizer my eyes.

It's worse for me when the fire is lit or the heating on. I suffer from allergies anyway .

I'm hoping that more luscious lashes might be the only positive to the sore eyes and potential loss of vision!

Our eye clinic have fought so hard to save my sight. Malignant glaucoma. I've had six operations . They've done cataract lenses along the way.

I have one prescription like yours once a day two sets of drops twice a day, another set of drops three times a day.

I give thanks that I see better than ever.

Sore eyes are a side effect.

There's worse eye conditions out there

I am starting to use Lotacryn eyedrops for Glaucoma prescribed by my doctor. The instructions say the plastic bottom needs to be pumped 10 times before the first use until the first drop emerges. Question: Do I need to repeat this every time or just the first time? Could anyone help me with this? Thank you.

Have you tried a cooling/warming eye mask?

You can get them from most chemists or B&M, try both cooling and warming and see if either offers relief. I prefer leaving mine in the fridge, then about 5 mins with it on my eyes soothes the soreness. I know for blepharitis warm is recommended.

I don't have glaucoma but have other eye conditions which leave me with very sore eyes.

Speak to your doctor. They may be able to prescribe preservative free drops to reduce irritation. They should also be able to prescribe eye gel to help with dry eyes

Lotacryn are preservative free.

Thankfully my eyes aren't getting as sore after I put the drops in.

Mine just seemed to need it the first time. Sometimes need an extra pump to get anything out. But I just tilt my head back, hold my eye open and pump once or twice until a drop falls into my eye.

I was told to pinch the bridge of my nose for 2 minutes after putting the drops in to keep them in my eyes but I'm not convinced that makes any difference.

No on both counts. But why would a single eye drop in each eye once a day cause weight gain?

No and I've been on them for years
