Dp deaf in one ear after flying

Can anyone suggest anything? Dp went deaf after a flight and then had one ear syringed. It did not improve. He then had the other ear done and this one cleared. He is now deaf in one ear. Nurse says it could be fluid in inner ear and to leave for another fortnight! it has been a month already. We have tried ear candling , drops, steaming with Olbas Oil and now at wits end. I was also affected for a couple of days only. We have both had heavy colds. He is tired of saying 'ay?' and I am tired of repeating myself! help please

Wondering why you haven't seen a doctor rather than a nurse. It sounds like it needs something more...maybe it's an ear infection. I got one some years ago after a cold and went completely deaf in one ear. Doctor said that it was one of the worst ear infections he'd ever seen and couldn't believe that it didn't hurt me at all.

I'm still deaf 2 weeks on from my cold/ear infection although it is improving slowly. You won't clear it with anything like syringing or drops in the ear because the blockage (fluid) is the otherside of the eardrum. It can be difficult to shift.

I've found steaming no use either as that only clears my nose/sinuses!

It took me 3 weeks to persuade him to see the nurse! (after the unfortunate ear candling incident - have you seen these they are grim, passed to him by a well meaning colleague - basically long tapers you poke in your ear and light to get rid of wax and 'induce relaxation'. OK til doorbell goes ) agree it would be good to see Dr soon. Did he prescribe anything for you SofiaAmes, or just confirmed it was an infection and would heal on its own? this is what nurse seems to have indicated it. Anyway thanks v much for the feedback and it will save me boiling the kettle for another grim Olbas session. Hope yours clears soon Dragon

Oh yes (he said it could at any time start hurting unbearably), I was prescribed a heavy antibiotic that did get rid of the infection but wrecked havoc with me (got 3 months of thrush...ugh). Men are terrible aren't they. My dh is always convinced he's dying of something or other, but refuses to go to the gp. I make appointments for him periodically when I've had enough of the moaning and withhold sex until he goes..

dd2 is still complaining about one of her ears since we landed on tuesday, do you think I should take her to the doctor? Sorry to hijack.

See how she is next week, Lou, and take her if it's not improved at all. I had ear problems for 4 days or so after flying to Antigua and they slowly cleared on their own.
