Do you think this needs antibiotics? Worth going back to the doctor?

Hi all.
I've been ill for 2 weeks now! 2 weeks ago it started with me being light headed and every time I moved my head I would get light headed, a couple of days after I started with ear pain. I went to my gp who said he didn't know what could be causing it, possibly labrynithis but that my ears looked OK and he didn't know what was wrong and to come back next week if its still the same. A couple of days later I started with a cold, temperature sneezing etc, the dizziness remained and ear pain and ear pressure and i felt like i was coming down with a sinus infection on top ( which i suffer with a lot) and i went back to the gp on Friday. He ruled out things such as vertigo etc and said it is probably a viral infection. Again possibly labrynithitis and a bit of my iron defiency anemia and to come back again if symptoms persist. I've been so ill with this since the weekend, sneezing, feeling really ill, temp on and off just general symtpoms of a cold but its not shifting which with a cold i usually get better in a day or 2. I know I've got a sinus infection on top because I have lots of pressure in my nose, a bad smell and green discharge which smells ( sorry tmi) coming out my nose. On top of this I have all the symptoms of a cold/flu. The lightheadness has thankfully subsided but I can't shift all the other symtpoms. I've been having lempsip, Beecham, steam etc. I've got 3 children , 2 in school and an 11 month old and every day this goes on I'm ending up in tears. I've been in tears all morning because I just feel so ill and I'm not functioning and the house is a mess and I feel like I'm letting my kids down. After a chat with my mum I am taking myself up to bed but I just can't go on like this it has been 2 weeks! Does this sound more like the flu than a cold? Do you think I should go back to the doctor ? Will I even get antibiotics? I've already been twice and just feel like I'm wasting my time to be honest or that they think I'm crazy. I just feel so ill!

I'd go back, a green smelly discharge from your nose will be making you feel rotten and it's painful.

Back to the GP if you have offensive smelling green mucus.

shewolfmum · 24/09/2024 11:30

I am on week 4 it is a rubbish bug. Can you try a neti pot? It seems to have very gluey type mucus which plugs everything up. I think I am slowly getting better....but have been steaming..neti pot...herbs....vitamins and giving myself reflexology. Utterly horrid hope you feel better soon.

You should be able to get into your pharmacist more quickly and some of them can prescribe antibiotics. Can you get down to see one today?

Thank you for all your replies. I filled out the form for an appointment for my gp as my doctors are good they respond quickly, they was telling me to come in on Friday but I said j can't wait until Friday I'm really not well, they've managed to get me in for today at 2pm so hopefully will get sorted

How did you get on?

Zayna98 · 24/09/2024 16:50

The doctor thinks it was a viral infection that's turned bacterial, he said as it's been going on for coming on 3 weeks now he will give antibiotics, I've got antibiotics for 6 days so hopefully it will clear everything up now!!
