Is this thrush? I’m in agony! Help!

(Sorry this is long!)
So just for a bit of background - I have had ongoing issues for a number of years now. I have issues with a skin tag caused around my anus which causes a lot of discomfort.
Ive also had issues around my bum area - issues when going to the toilet.
Since the birth of my son I’ve also had issues with things never feeling quite ‘right’ down there. So sex has never felt right and is not enjoyable. I have been to the doctors recently about all these issues and have been fobbed off.

However, recently things took a turn - about 4 months ago my husband and I were having sex and it was REALLY painful. Afterwards I was in tears and left in pain for about a week after.

Waited 2 months before we tried again - agony. In pain for 2 weeks afterwards.

We haven’t had sex since because I am too scared. Then just over 2 weeks ago I started getting that pain permanently.
it is so hard to explain but inside of me feels like it is just falling apart. I am in agony!
i have never felt pain like this. The pain is all inside my vagina as if I have a dry tampon in there or something. Feels irratated, inflamed, sheer agony. I’ve also started to feel very shaky and sick.

I went to the doctors Thursday and got a trainee doctor who did not have a clue. She got very hung up on this skin tag (because she didn’t know what a skin tag was).
I didn’t feel comfortable with her examining me because she really seemed clueless and I really didn’t feel comfortable with her.

In the end a male doctor came in and explained briefly my issues and he has referred me to gynaecology for the issues I had since childbirth. I just thought thank god! And thought I’ll have to just make it through until I can see a specialist.

However I have no idea when that will be and I’m in so much pain I don’t know how much more I can take. I’ve had a Quick Look on Google and think maybe thrush? But I have absolutely no idea.

I think I’m going to have to book another appointment for Monday but does anyone have any idea what this could be??? So I can mention these to the doctor when I see them.

Thank you so much if you’ve taken the time to read this, any help would be appreciated!

Hopeful bump for you, sorry I don't have an experience but might be worth trying canestan or something just in case it helps. I don't think it could do any harm x

EBearhug · 21/09/2024 11:43

Canestan shouldn't do harm, but if it's not thrush, it won't clear it. I think it has some soothing properties as well as fungicide, though.

Did they swab for anything like thrush, or take bloods?

feelingalittlehorse · 21/09/2024 11:50

Hi OP, no specific experience of this, but I actually ended up going private for my gyne issues. I don’t know if that’s an option for you but honestly, I just kept getting fobbed off through the NHS. Most appointments they didn’t even examine me.

Sorted out quickly and efficiently once I’d gone private.

Zeeze · 21/09/2024 11:51

Frankly if you are in agony I would ring 111 and see if you should be seen by out of hours GP. This sounds more than thrush and could be some sort of infection.

Zeeze · 21/09/2024 11:53

Are you having actual chills. Chills and shaky could be many things but are an indication of sepsis if they have just started.

AmeliaEarache · 21/09/2024 11:56

The dry, rasped raw feeling sounds like my experience of having sex with thrush - absolutely awful! It was undiagnosed for ages and I empathise.

Shaking and chills, however, doesn’t - those are feverish symptoms and are more worrying.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 21/09/2024 11:56

Sounds more like a prolapse, nothing like thrush

ThirstyThursday · 21/09/2024 12:01

If you're shaky & have chills you need to go to A&E. apart from the various gyne issues you could have sepsis. Just go & tell them how you feel right now. Don't lead them to believe it's all ongoing & you're trying to jump the queue, the shakes & chills need investigating now! Tell them you're worried you might have sepsis. Go!

Seaoftroubles · 21/09/2024 12:03

See your GP again( maybe a different one this time as the last was not clued up) and ask to be referred to a colorectal nurse for a full assessment. It may be you have a prolapse, possibly a rectocele, which could have originated from childbirth. If you suffer from constipation too that can make it worse.
Also if you feel sore and scratchy inside the vagina, and Caneston doesn't help, then it could possibly be hormonal in which case you need to ask your G P for ovestin cream and/or vagifem ( a tiny pessary ) which should make a big difference as it helps plump up the tissues inside so sex would be more comfortable.

Thanks for all the responses.

To answer some of the questions:

No, no bloods and no tests.

No examination. I had a trainee doctor and she got very very caught up on the skin tag that I mentioned in passing so she didn’t seem to understand the main concern I had gone in for.
To give an idea of how bad this appointment was she asked me multiple times what a skin tag was (which I feel she should know?) & even when I tried to move on from that subject she would continue to go back to that point only, and asked me to draw a picture of my skin tag.

Have started to feel hot and very very shaky as of last night, and very sick. Just feeling very unwell.

I called my mum in desperation and she said to go to A&E, but I’m worried about wasting peoples time. If it is just thrush I would feel so embarrassed that I went to A&E over something so minor.

No examination FFS ridiculous. Our trainees would not have got away with that in a consultation.

I would phone 111 today as you're feeling unwell.

FuckThePoPo · 21/09/2024 12:35

mine turned out to be vaginal atrophy at a young age 37

youre probably not that old though but just in case

Thrush is itching, soreness and discharge. This sounds like infection, not thrush. Please listen to your mum and everyone else saying you need urgent medical attention. It will not be embarrassing, it could potentially save your life.

Zeeze · 21/09/2024 12:58

Your symptoms are not thrush. I have had bad thrush and had had horrible itching but nothing like that.

You have symptoms of a serious infection and possibly sepsis which can kill you within hours. Believe me, I know someone, a nurse in fact who died within hours. If you do not want to go to A & E, call 111 and say exactly what you have said here.

Doggymummar · 21/09/2024 13:03

I wonder if maybe it's fibroids? Regarding the pain during sex, we haven't had sex for three years as it's so painful and I can't insert a tampon as it feels like there's no room if you see what I mean. I saw the gynaecologist about a month back and I have masses of them, including pressing on me, causing urinary incontinence. Joy. I'm waiting for a hysterectomy but your symptoms sound similar. Before diagnosis I was having frequent UTIs and thrush outbreaks.

Seaoftroubles · 21/09/2024 13:37

OP, a UTI could make you feel hot, sick and shaky, do phone 111, you may need antibiotics. Get thaf sorted first then follow up afterwards re your other symptoms.

Depressedasf · 21/09/2024 17:05

Thanks all for the advice.

I rang 111 and have a hospital appointment at 6 today.

Screwdrivver · 21/09/2024 17:15

It could be aerobic vaginitis. I had this was in agony but struggled to get diagnosed and treated. I ended up having to get a swab done privately by digital microbiology as the NHS don't test for this. Just something to be aware of as in my experience a GP or Gynaecologist will unlikely be aware of this condition.

EBearhug · 21/09/2024 18:49

Good luck @Depressedasf - I guess you're being seen now. Hope all is okay.
