Worried about CT scan

I had classic UTI symptoms with visible blood in my urine, dip test at Dr confirmed leukocytes and blood present so I was prescribed antibiotics. Dr sent sample to the lab however they failed to find any bacteria when a culture was grown. UTI symptoms have now gone but I was called in to see my GP yesterday who advised that as no infection was found I needed to have more tests.

All sounded reasonable until just now when the hospital rang to call me in for an urgent CTI scan tomorrow. I'm now sat here fearing the worst and wondering if my niggly lower back ache is actually something more sinister than bad posture. I've obviously googled which probably wasn't wise so looking for reassurance from anyone who's been in a similar position.

@Lavendersquare sorry to hear you are worried. Could it be kidney stones? That caused blood in my urine

Lavendersquare · 17/09/2024 13:16

@Littleleap that's for replying, it's possible but I'm not really in any serious pain and I've heard that kidney stones are very painful.

Hi, please listen to this brilliant award winning new podcast on chronic urinary tract infections (CUTIs), highly recommend if you're wanting to learn more about the little know topic of CUTIs. Its brilliantly researched and a really important topic everyone should be aware of that aims to help women advocate for themselves in the face of stubborn GPs and a medical world that has historically ignored womens health.

@Lavendersquare depends where they are I think. When they start moving around it can cause pain. With mine the pain varied, at times none or just a dull ache but then they got stuck somewhere and it wasn't too far off labour pain! I was sent for a CT scan to diagnose and then had them removed.

I've had this. They found blood in my urine and after 2 courses of antibiotics it was still there. I was referred and had a CT scan, flexible cystoscopy and a rigid cystoscopy (under anaesthetic). I was found to have Interstitial Cystitis which is basically inflammation of the bladder but no infection. As far as I'm aware there is no treatment for this so I was discharged. This was nearly 10 years ago. Wishing you luck with the CT tomorrow. You might have to have contrast given through a cannula which makes you feel as though you have wet yourself - you won't have wet yourself but it's a strange feeling. It wears off very quickly.

My only symptoms of kidney stones were blood in my urine and the odd pain in my side . Blood usually appeared after exercise.
